A couple things I've seen in answers that are misleading/untrue...
1. Prius production has more than doubled in recent months to catch up with demand. There's no problem selling them. My dealership sold 30 last month.

2. There are no recalls/quality issues, especially with the Prius. There was a ball-joint recall on older Sequoias and Tundras a couple of months ago because they run on the same platform. That recall was precautionary and came as a result of testing after there were 2 reported incidents in the world of an issue relating to the ball joint.

Onto the question...
The '08 Prius will likely be released in the late summer or fall, but won't be much different than the '07 model (no official date has been made known to me as of yet). Check your local dealer if there are any incentives on the '07's - right now, we have a (practically) 0% lease. Toyota's factories will be shutting down sometime in May/June to make the switches for a lot of the models that are having significant changes for the '08 model year, and the '08's should start landing at dealerships in late July. My personal guess about the release date for the '08 Prius is September, but that's just my guess.

As for your question about if you should just get the Civic hybrid, why not consider an '07 Prius? The Toyota hybrid system is far superior to anything else that's on the market - they were the first to develop it, and have decades of research and development behind it. The Prius gets about ten MPG more than the Civic's hybrid, among the many differences.

Most of the new model year vehicles for Toyota are released around July or August with a few coming before or after. There should not be any major changes to the model from my understanding with probably a few $100 increase in pricing. I guess I don't understand why you would choose a whole different model or even wait on the 2008's when there is availability of the 2007 model currently.

Hope this helps.

They are having enough trouble selling what they have, I'm sure they are in no hurry for the 2008s
