I have been to the website and found quite a few key pieces of information, but i dont want to have to pay for 5 certificates just to find the next one i need... Is there a way i can view this information before i buy it? There are an awful lot of margarets that married johns........ If i have to pay $25 each cert. then it really will be a costly exercise.. Any suggestions?

Go to the NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages website and they have thier contact details there give them a call and by providing them with specific information then they can assist you and to the right certificate that you're after.

Are the certificates you are looking for old or are they recent? If so, most libraries have microfilm with nsw birth, deaths, marriages records, as well as the other states. They are free to use. Births go up to 1905-ish, and deaths and marriages to the 50s and 70s respectively. (I think these are the dates, if i remember correctly.)
I've used them before at my local regional library up here at gosford and i think i just had to book the machine.
If you find them on the microfilm you should then be able to buy them.
