You are mom to them, when they were little they would do that while mom bathed them and she would finish off by stimulating their privates to go to the bathroom and she would eat it....yummmmmm, So they raise their butts each time you pet them as a reflex or instict from infancy to have you clean them from head to tail.

cats are a very simple animal the bottom line is they enjoy it just like you would injoy a nice back massage on the beach some where k .It triggers there pressure points in there body that fills good to them and they love attention and being loved it gives them some sucerity

Cats have glands that release oils that have scents to mark their territory.
I'm sure you've noticed your cat likes to have the sides of his face/head scratched, too. There are these glands there as well as his hips/thigh area. He's raising his hips to encourage you to scratch there so, essentially, he can mark you as his.
Take it as a sign of affection and trust.

They do that as a reflex to when they were kittens. When they are kittens, their mothers clean them so they lift their butts for her. Amazing that it carries on into adulthood!

Cats ofer you their butts becuase they have scent glands there. In cat society, a cat who offers his butt for another to smell is saying, "I'm your freind... this is how I smell like." Butt offering in cat society is the equivalent of the hand shake in ours. So... when your kitty offers you his but... welll... you know what to do! hee hee hee

I don't know, maybe they're letting you know that you live to serve them, and that you can kiss their azz (thats why they show their butthole).
