Really. If creationism should be taught in biology classes, shouldn't astrology be taught in astronomy classes?

Astrology is based on faith rather than science, as is creationism.

There is absolutely no scientific basis for either postulate, and both are in fact inconsistent with scientific observation and evidence, and thus refuted by science.

Almost every reputable scientist (without a personal or religious agenda) disparages both as mythology and/or pseudoscience.

Both claim to be "scientific" & legitimate "alternative" theories to those established by scientific study, observation, logic and deduction.

So if we're going teach creationism as science, shouldn't we give equal time to astrology? And alchemy, phrenology, personal auras, occultism, Christian Science, Scientology and occultism?

If not, why not? All are based on faith, refuted by science and rejected by the scientific community. So if one, then why not all?

Or are only Christian theories allowed?

"Intelligent Design" is just the new, "politically correct" way of saying Creationism. Either way, it involves God's intervention in the universe and in the creation of mankind, for which there is, and by definition cannot be, any scientific evidence. Whatever you call it, it's based on faith and not on science. And that does not belong in government funded schools (whether funded directly by taxes, or indirectly with "school vouchers.")

I just love when people tell me, "your ignorant." Message to those folks: "YOU'RE in need of some literacy training." Ignorance is largely demonstrated by one's grasp of the language (or lack thereof).

Are you speaking about the public schools in the USA?
Because Evolution is taught in the public school systems in the USA. It is against the law to teach religions in public schools in the US.

Neither Creationism nor astrology belong in public school curriculum. If you want Creationism taught, there are countless pariochal high schools across the country who teach it. Those don't come free (sorry, paid for by tax dollars) like public schools do.

Astrology on the other hand is typically self-taught through books and occasionally mentors from a local metaphysical shop. Even then, it takes those folks years of study.

Science is what should be taught. That's why it's called science in the first place. Because it's in public school, the staff has to be sensitive toward everyone's faith or lackthereof. Religion is not a requirement to get anyone into college, unless it is through a pariochal school, so it is not taught. Also, it goes back to the tenets this country was founded upon of seperation of church and state which people today want to get rid of. A public school is considered "state" so there is required to be that distinction.

lol hahahaha We know that its almost complete scientific fact we evolved. We have no single shred of evidence the earth is a few thousand years old. But tons of evidence that its millions and billions. Then you can get really deep into it but I don’t feel like typing all night. And now for my answer to the question...

Yea I've often wondered what its like to be taught creationism in biology lol. There’s no science behind it just merely saying god did it would be sufficient. I'd love to sit in a classroom teaching creation it'd be hilarious.

Evolution at best is a forensic science. By the very deffiniton of the scientific method, evolution cannot be tested, therefore it shouldn't even be considered a theory, the same goes for religious beliefs about creation as well.

Astrology and Astronomy should be together, for they were once the same science. But later split.

Let alone, the Bible says...." look to those that study the stars in the end days ". Both sciences match that line, for both should be the same.

Another thing from the past we can't understand. Many things were changed out of fear. Good example is the real name of God removed from the Bible in 1929. For they thought just saying the name was a sin. Fear drove that.

Then look at what the Taliban did by blowing up that 2000 yr statue in the mountain. 100 yrs from now some person will say.....why did they do that?

It is sad that those in the past changed things for us. Our job to search through it all and figure out the real past.

You know I actually completely 100% agree with that statement. So I presented that to my astronomy professor (i was never a good science student anyway so he was willing to help me out to boost my grade a lil since i always went to his tutoring sessions and exam preps before tests) and for one week (2 classes) he allowed class to be taught by a tarot card reader who read everyone's cards and talked a lot about the miracles and perfect predictions in astrology. It was actually really cool.

So yeah--you have managed to change my beliefs. I was completely against any myths in science class. I studied myths in English lit, not science. But since he was willing to allow that, I'm ok with one week of biology class being taken over by a creationist. (Maybe it would have improved my grade in that as well!)

You are right on. Maybe we can get a few more people to print out your argument and pass it around as a petition in their "stars and planets" class.

Astrology is appropriate to be included in the instruction of astronomy. It is after all the mother of the science. It is an excellent comparison. Let's do it!!

How is astrology related to the issue of origins? Both evolution and creation are competing BELIEF SYSTEMS on how the universe and ultimately life came to be. You prejudiced the issue by ASSUMING that evolution is scientific. It is no more scientific than creation. Like creation, it is a BELIEF about the past (which is really a history question) rather than a scientific question.

Creationism is not being thought in school, inteligent design is. And the theories of inteligent design are as good as those of evolutions. Inteligent design say that evolution is no accident but some inteligence is actually motivating it. This explains how nature adapts to any situacion. Is imposible for evolution to be an accident, there has to be something intelligent at work. What we don't know!

Whats wrong with creation, nothing proves that god did not creat the heaven and the earth and everything in/on them. Well, yea he didn't do it in six literal days, and it was billions of years back ( unless he created light on root, but since the world will only exist for a couple more years I guess there would have been no reason for the underlying stars). But anyway, sure he could have he's invincible.
