For a while now I have been able to eat easily less than a 500-800 calories a day and not get hungry. I do eat when I feel hunger and actually get quite grumpy when I do :)~ But do I have an eating disorder? I am conscious of what I put in my mouth and when I do get hungry I worry about the sudden increase in calories for that day but again I don't obsess. I workout about 3-4 times a week but don't obsess when I don't get into the gym. Do I need professional help? Or am I ok?! I just feel thats its not normal to never be hungry!

I think this would be better addressed by a doctor, not saying you have any disorder, but you may be lacking in daily requirements to stay healthy, calcium, potassium, iron, etc. Only your doctor can tell you if your at optimal weight considering your height, age, etc. They will probably do blood work to see if there is any imbalances or deficencies that need to be addressed.

The less you eat for a period of time, the less you crave or get hunger pangs due to metabolism changes.

If you're eating as few as 500 calories -yes-you do need professional help. A 400-1000 calorie diet should be short term and under strict doctor supervision and only for people whose bmi (body mass index) is over 33 -Once you are intaking only 400-600 calories you are at a high risk of your vital organs shutting down. If you are also going to the gym you are basically burning off everything you consumed-you are starving yourself-seek medical advice please!!

Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by a person's "conception", or "misconception" of their body, often linked to feelings of physical inadequacy.

When I was 30, I returned to college for a graduate degree. I was surrounded by young girls who had extremely slim physiques. As a mother of two, who had neglected exercise and succumbed to too many pizzas, cheese and macaroni casseroles, hundreds of pieces of fried chicken and pork chops, my personal image of myself was not too pleasant. I went on a 500-calorie-a-day diet. I ate one McDonald's cheeseburger per day, and consumed at least one gallon of unsweetened tea each day. Within three weeks, I had lost 15 pounds. After five weeks, I had lost 30 pounds. I went from a size 10 to a size 1. When I looked in the mirror, I was perfect; but, my children and husband thought I looked like a skeleton!

In the past 35 years, I have lost, at times, 40 to 50 pounds, vacillating from a size 14 to a size 1. Am I anorexic? No. Do I feel, at times, a disgust with the way I look? Yes.

I am now, again, a size 14. It's time for McDonald's and unsweetened tea!
