i.e
if the treadmill shows 1000 it actually means 1 mile.

40 minutes of running at 8 miles an hour would get you alot further than 567 meters. It takes a healthy person running and a steady pace only 15 minutes or so to run 2 miles.
So either you weren't running that fast or for that long and it is Meters or it could be callories burned although that is alot to burn in that time. YA 567 klms would take a car 5-6 hours if it's mils it would take 7-8.

All you have to do is run enough miles to get some calories down in order to keep your cardio work going great. Also mix in cardio with weight training in order to see mxalimal results.
Incline is extra information and has nothing to do with speed, but you can go on the internet and fine software that calculates each step and in total how much you ran in feet, then you can go and calculate how many miles it was. They have them in walmart and anywhere else.

The numbers are just numbers, they may claim that it's kcalories, but it isn't really. The number for the same effort on a very slightly different machine, maybe even the one next to it, will be different. The numbers are only really any use for comparing results on the same machine. Same things with the weights, I surely wasn't doing 300Kg on the pec deck, but I really did have 275Kg on the leg press.

it's neither. you said you ran for a total of 40 minutes on the "treatmill". you would have to be running over 600 mile/km per hour for this to be true. maybe less time at the gym and more at the library is what you need.

It's not easy to run that far, such distances takes days to complete by top long-distance runners. It could be paces (or meters). You have to check on the manufacturer's specifications book or plate (attached to the apparatus).
To convert miles to km, devide by 1.6, or vice versa.

if you run normally about 10 miles an hour . that would be aprox 8 miles you ran,
maybe you should refer to the instruction book

My guess is that it is neither. It is most likely "calories burned".
The treadmill probably has several functions and mileage would be one of them. Ask one of the trainers how you can program the treadmill to show you the information you want.

that's probably in meters. do you know how far 567 miles is? it's as big as a small state, and i'm pretty sure you didn't run that far.
