I often ask for peoples' opinions. That means, I trust them. But unfortunately, when it comes to deciding, I still am the one who has to make a choice and bear the consequences of that choice. Always.

Hopefully I trust the Lord to that degree. And my parents to a small degree. The Lord really has been through it all and knows the best things to do. I am seeing this with my sister and my parents right now. My parents keep on counseling her on a specific issue. She doesn't believe they understand where she is coming from and what is going on, and so she keeps on doing the same dumb thing over and over again (I really would like to bang my head against the wall sometimes over her). You'd think she would learn, but she hasn't yet and she still keeps on ignoring what my parents tell her thinking that they don't know the situation. The trouble is, she doesn't even trust herself and what she knows about this. But man, if she ever trusted in our parents or the Lord (or even the answers she's already received), she'd save herself and others a lot of headache and heartache.

It's kind of a strange paradox, don't you think? If I say I trust God more than myself, aren't I really trusting myself that I have made the right decision by trusting God? I do trust God more than myself, but the trick is to know what God's will really is in a certain situation.

When I know for sure what God's will is; for example don't lie but tell the truth always, then I trust God that if I obey Him, I will not worry about the consequences. But if I went with my own instincts, I might rationalize and think it is OK to lie. But I trust God that following Him is always better than choosing not to.

Yes, on specific things. I would trust my dentist to work on my teeth more than myself.
Same thing for my doctor, my lawyer, a plumber , an electrician, my mechanic and a supporting cast of hundreds.
It is about specialized knowledge and experience.
This does not mean I don't keep an eye on what they are doing. I have caught all of these pros making mistakes. None of us are perfect.
But yeah, when I need a specialist then I need a specialist.

EDIT. Kudos to Meerkat

Trust implies a constancy of worth to be trusted as such, and if knowledge of worth is ever developing, then what ones trusts, and how much, must also change. To trust impermanent things as though they were permanent is folly.

Only what is perfect for the moment is trustworthy, and only what is always perfect is always trustworthy.

We lie to ourselves all the time. I can rationalize anything I do. People rationalize or justify divorces, murders, "white lies", half-truths, selfish acts, theft (lying on tax documents). You name it we all do it. I don't trust myself. I almost always act selfishly. I wish the truth, life in general, etc. were centered around me. So who do I trust. The very nature of love is unselfish and therefore I trust those people filled with love who act out of concern for another. Those I love trust me because I act out of the same concern for their well being and benefit. We can always trust loving people.

Trust myself? Are you kidding? I just stopped at the market and bought a box of Zingers and ate five of them. And I'm trying to lose weight.

I have no trust in the flesh. Especially mine. However, I trust God completely.
