seems sad to have to write a comment or answer in querstion form but there seems no alternative after its closed and the answers are soo wrong. impurities in water or any liquid raise the temperature required to boil it and lower the temperature to freeze it. the reason is with the impurities more heat transfer is required to change its state, and thus more of whatever youre doing to cause this change ie more heat added to boil or more heat taken away to freeze. the "pan scarring is korekk. (correct in english), kasi (because) of the chemical reaction of the electrolyte (salt water) with the metal of the kettle basically erosion or corrosion of the metal by salt water, the hotter the more corrosion. aluminum is really bad for this as well as being thought to contribute to alzsheimers, but i put salt in the water before i boil lobster and havnt noticed any real problem with the kettle, but it does take longer to boil every time. it doesnt vary with location its a property of compounds
