Hi there.

No, only Windows XP and Vista versions requires activation.

Not sure of 2002 and 2003 does tho (Server or Enterprise editions btw.)

Hope this helps

Not sure what you mean by "just in the case of Windows XP" but Windows 2000 should still require activation even though you cannot buy the license for the software any longer, its an anti theft device that was first introduced in that operating system I believe, or perhaps Windows ME. Either way, both 2000 and XP require activation, and, while I have never done it myself, I do know how the process works and its fairly easy, not unlike registering gaming software with the manufacturers.

Just get UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if your computer has less than 256MB of RAM).

It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.

You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".

It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.

Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.

Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.
