Jesus was one of many "Messiahs", its my theory that he had the best public relations staff.

There's a historical proof of the existence of Jesus. However, the God Being that he had changed into is due to the Church set up by his common followers.
This questions was reiterated in answers many times (esp christmas).
I've personally thought that Jesus was a great Teacher or Leader, but I've also doubted his spiritual claims.
The Church had trouble converting the pagans then, so as to make Christianity an easier pill to swallow, the adapted the pagan religion of Mithraism (which was very big then).
Although Jesus was supposed to be born in around April, the Church then did not celebrate his birthday (why I do not know). They cleverly announced the Birthday of Mithras to be the birthday of Jesus, so that the pagans would not have to change their traditions of celebrating at the 25 December.

Actually the Mithra cult was very popular with the Roman armies. They carried it even to England. The whole cave and catacombs thing is there as well.
But the Mithra cult has older religions that it was ripped from. The Egyptians had almost the whole thing down when they were worshiping the Golden Calf of the Sun.
Who knows how far back the Solar cults actually go.
At the time of the creation of Christ the Jewish Kingdom had collapsed and they were forced to abandon their Lunar Calendar to adopt the Roman Empire's Solar Calendar. They had to find a new religion to celebrate the new holidays marking the new months and seasons.
Excellent reading. But Huge

Not nearly as large but still a good history primer

I suggest reading the Bidstrup link first. Bible origins is just too easy to get lost in.

you've faith what you like, yet I ensue to nicely known that Jesus became pre-existent and so became each and every thing he became going to do right here on earth. The snake from the backyard knew Gods plan and had various time to deprave it. He has been doing a similar artwork from the commencing up. those pagan impacts infiltrate all aspects of our lives in modern-day society. devil even crept into the Church with a number of those evil practices inflicting some Christians to unknowingly repeat those historic rituals. the youngsters assemble timber, the fathers kindle the fire, and the ladies knead dough, to make brownies for the queen of heaven; and that they pour out drink selections to different gods, that they might provoke Me to anger. Jeremiah 7:18 the single factor that proves you incorrect approximately Christ is this little 1356 website letter that the God of Abraham and His Son wrote to us telling us all approximately our origins and our destiny. I don’t remember Mithra, Isis, Horus, Semerimus, Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva or the different pagan counterfeit ever telling me the destiny in such element and then turning in on it. Have ye no longer favourite? have ye no longer heard? hath it no longer been instructed you from the commencing up? have ye no longer understood from the principles of the earth? it is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to stay in: Isa 40:21-22

There are correlations with the myth of Hercules/Heracles as well. Son of god, born of woman, performed great deeds, rising into the heavens to be with the god(s)...
There are a few other messianic figures with similar backgrounds contemporary to the Christ myth, the most famous is Apollonius of Tianis.
EDIT: To the poster who thinks that there is historical proof for the existence of Jesus...check this link for a brief summary of how wrong you actually are: http://nobeliefs.com/exist.htm

I agree with spanky. Jesus is the Son of God and there is nobody who can lay claim to that.

I think you have to ignore a lot of Biblical and extra-Biblical documented history to make that claim. Not even most non-Christians deny the literal existence of Jesus.

I can say stuff here but I am not to judge others (other religions). So all I can say is, research YAHWEH, YHWH. For that is the true name of GOD, and the only true religion.

I think it's merely one more attempt to deny that there is one God, and only one way to God, by His son, Jesus Christ.
