One thing I did with my son when he was that age was this: toss all sorts of toys, books, and child friendly items on the carpet. Then I'd lay on the floor with him while he explored all his options. By the time my husband was home we were both napping on the floor!!! So much for dinner!!! It was so much fun and when he'd wake up I'd put the stuff away. He wouldn't help at first, but after a few months he'd put toys he took out all on his own. So, there was an advantage to our little mad playdates every few days. Enjoy!!!

Get that poor baby out of the crib! He can lay on the floor with you and look at things, he could have some tummy time looking at big books, or at least hold him and talk to him. Your son loves the sound of your voice and even if you can't sing sing anyway. If it is warm where you live take a walk holding him out so he can look around. Go to the mall and carry him around and let people tell you how beautiful he is and how lucky you are. Make your own photo studio using sheets and take his picture. Enjoy every second of him they grow up way too fast.

give him a rattle, you'll have to put it in his hand and close his fingers around it and help him move his arm. A mobile to go over the crib, if you don't have one make one. The play gyms that you lay the baby under are nice. Just play with him. hold him and sing to him. Start playing patty-cake.

i played peek-a-boo with mine.. would just pop up my head over the crib railing.. also.. a mobile.... with bright bright colours and sounds..
a teething ring.. a rattle... as soon as they can get their hands wrapped around something, let them hold stuff.. helps them mentally too..
I would put a texture blanket down as well.. (a blanket made from many different textured fabrics..) gets them interested in touching and seeing things around them.
