Christopher Columbus was looking for a way to India by sailing west from Europe thus sailing around the world to India, when he got to the Carribean he thought he made it to India

It's called the West Indies because Columbus considered it to be "West India." It was his way of determining East India (India) from West India (West Indies Caribbean.).

Columbus of course. Sad man thought he had discovered India and China, but instead discovered the lands that were eventually named after a man called Amerigo Vespucci, which is why the Americas are called as they are. Of course, if they had been called the Vespuccians, history would have been much different.

because most of the island is in the west an that is the name christoper columbus gave us but u should come especially to nevis so beautiful

Everyone is right on that and may I add that when Columbus arrived he saw, what history now reffers to as, Amerindians who were described as having coppery skin, straight black hair, dary eyes and wide cheekbones - which most likely helped convince Columbus he had reached India.

cuz columbus thought that he landed in india. india was west of where columbus lived, and he was looking for another way to india!

because when columbas found thought he found india we was going west. there for they are called thw west indies.
