my kids are dying to see snow....but i don't want to drive all the way down to big bear...it's like 3 and a half hours...they don't need huge banks of snow...just enough to make a few snowballs. I was wondering if there was any place close (w/in an hour or two) of santa barbara that might have some of the white stuff.

leroy, Unfortunately this is last gasp weekend at Mt. Baldy, they report only patches of snow left (which honestly means there will be a lot of mud). It may take you more than 2 hours to get there, but it should be a scenic drive into the mountains anyway. You will get to see Mt. Baldy and (guessing here) Mt. San Antonio which is the tallest Mt. in the San Gabriel Mountains and the Angeles National Park. At this time of year this may not be the snow experience your kids were looking for, or maybe it is????
Oh yeh it is actually more East of Pasadena than North, I think they have a new route 210 (off the 10) near Rancho Cucamonga

Yeh I actually called Mammoth, they have snow and are open but jezz it would take all day (and a long one) to drive there and back. He wanted within an hour or 2 and I am afraid that doesn't exist.....Leroy, How about a nice amusement park for the kids?????

maximum of California's snow falls interior the Northern California mountains. Lake Tahoe-Reno section is absolute to be a white Christmas each year. extremely concepts-blowing. only make certain you determine the climate rfile, and don't stress on Interstate eighty whilst it rather is actual coming down (the CHP usually closes the expressway for quite a few hours in the time of storms). In SoCal, especially cases massive submit to Lake gets some authentic snow, on a similar time as Lake Arrowhead has the pretend snow device on finished speed in the process the iciness.

I've seen snow in Ojai and Frazier Park, but its prety rare. Better chance on Mt. Baldy, which is north of Pasadena. Otherwise you ar driving all the way to Big Bear or Lone Pine. good Luck

I would think mammoth and surrounds would be closer to you than anything down south.

with the dismal rain fall this year, you're kids may have to wait until next year.
