I was a Medic and Firefighter for 25 years. I've had cancer {which by the way can kiss my A**, the cancer, I mean} 3 times. You better believe it. A view from both sides of the fence, if you will.

Your question doesn't make much sense. But I think you are asking if nurse have illnesses will it make them a better nurse. I think that being a nurse is a calling and not all people can do this. I don't think having a certain illness make you a better nurse, it may make you understand something a little better, but I doubt if it makes you better. I have worked with nurses who have had everything that could possibly happen to a person happen to them and they were wonderful nurses and people and then I have had others who were awful and awful people. Again I think that it is a calling much like a "nun" and it takes a special person to do what they do, day in and day out. I hope that I have helped you somewhat.

The medic/firefighter is not a nurse and so cannot speak for nurses. I am a nurse but I can speak only for myself. Having had an illness does not necessarily make a better nurse. What the person above is saying is BS and anyway you weren't asking about dcotors. Most people shove the "sick" experience into deep memory. They don't wish to remember it. And it doesn't influence how they treat others. Nurses are just people. We can be very compassionate, somewhat compassionate or just efficient.

Yes. Usually patients make the best doctors because they understand what it feels like to be sick and in need of care. People who have had an illness or been in a situation like the one you are in tend to be more campassionate and are able to relate to you better. Take care.
