I was on Zoloft for a very long time; about 8 years. I was also on a very high doseage of 200mg. I started when I was 19 yrs old and now I am 27. I strarted taking it for depression and bulimia, and I stayed on it after an unfortunate series of tragedies.
I decided to start weaning off of it about 5 or 6 wks ago for several reasons. I don't have medical insurance right now. Moreover, I may at some point decide to have a baby. I don't want to be dependent on the stuff for ever. I reduced my doseage by about 25mg/week.
I've been completely Zoloft free for 2 days now. I feel extremely tired and light headed all the time. 2 days ago I had awful stomach cramping and diarrhea. I have not been able to work out as much as usual, which is a major problem since I work as a personal trainer.
When will I feel normal again? Will my depression come back? Are there any supplements I can take to reduce the withdrawals? Will I gain weight? What can I do to get my life back on track?

Hey there,

I have experienced exactly the same withdrawal symptoms.. they suck!! My suggestions are:
1. See your doctor about it ASAP.
2. Start taking the medication again on the lowest dose.. maybe try a 25 mg tab every second day instead of every day for a week or so, then try going without, see if that helps..

But really don't try anything yourself, you should speak to a doctor, these medications are dangerous when tampered with and whilst you have certainly been very sensible in your approach by tapering slowly, it's still important you consult with a doctor for advice.

Good luck,
Ammy :)

I don't think this would be caused from Zoloft if this happened only one day of being off of it. I take Zoloft. I ran out for 3 days and I actually did a lot of crying, I was dizzy. Depending on what your allergic reaction was to you could get the symptoms you named. You did right by slowly going off the Zoloft just stopping can actually cause seizures. Taking the benadryl on a empty stomach could cause nausea.

well you should be feeling you ole self any time now, if you took yourself off of it slow enough. So you will go back to the way you were, before taking it 7 years ago, now if that is what you want, then it is your choose, but you really needed to of talked it over first with your therapist, or doctor.

also do you realize that the drug companies that make this medication, does send monthly supplies of the medication to your therapist or doctor , so you can get it free, and stay on it. Now if you want to have a baby, yes you would need to go off of it, and that you can talk to your doctor when that time comes.

I understand these symptoms as I've experienced them myself. You may have to get back on a small dose and stay there for awhile, and then try to wean yourself off of that dose slowly. Even if you don't have insurance, you can go to a county mental health facility and speak to a doctor who will help you. Suerte!!
