I bought a dog last year and I noticed the dog kept scratching,
so I looked at her skin and I seen some white specs.
I didn't think much of it. I gave her a bath, and still she kept
on scratching, so I had another look under a good light, and
I could see an area with scabs and around it something
came out of her skin. I was shocked and amazed at what
I was seeing. It wasn't a flea and it almost looked like a
worm. I showed my husband and we took her to the
emergency vet, because I know some bugs can kill pups.
The vet had one look at it and said my dog was covered
in lice. I almost dropped to the floor. She showed my
husband what it looked like under a microscope and he
was shocked. I put some flea stuff the vet gave me for my
other dog on her and that killed some of them. But I had
to go home and pick each one out of her hair. The lice
makes nets in the hair, so they don't fall out, they have to
be picked out. I also bought a comb for lice and that helped
alot. They can jump on us, but they don't live on us, as they
only live on the pet, cause they don't like our blood.
They also will only survive on the dog, lice tends to stay on
the dog, cause they do form nets and if you have tried to
pull one out, you know what I mean.
I had to pick them out of my dogs hair for hours that night, and
the poor dog was so stressed out. It's the only way to get
rid of them. I would suggest that anyone buying a pet
inspect the skin very well. Cause you never know what
your going to get.

No. Lice are species specific parasites. Cat lice won't infect a dog. Dog lice won't infect a cat. Human head lice won't infect a dog or a cat. If you or your child get head lice, it's from another human.

Lice are host specific. You will not get lice from your dog or cat. people only get lice from other people.
Mites on the other hand are different. You can get scabies (sarcoptic mange) from your pet.
Fleas are not lice. Yes they will bite humans, but like dogs and cats more.

From my personal experience, I know my kitten gave me lice.
I got a 4week old kitten and I let him sleep on my pillow by my neck and long hair.
2weeks go by and I saw he had, what I thought at the time, fleas. So i bathed and combed him every other day.
When I wiped the comb on a towel I noticed they didn't look like the fleas in the pictures because they were lightly colored, almost flat, and had short legs. I never even saw one jump- even when I stared at one slowly wiggling across the towel for at least 30min.
I was kinda glad it was lice and not fleas because they were "rumored" easier to get rid of then fleas. AND that they stick to their host, not spread to a different species. So I let him continue to sleep by me, he loves to cuddle.
After a month of cuddling, I pulled one out of my hair! It took me only 2 weeks to clean my hair but he had to be bathed and combed for almost 2 months.
I couldn't haven't gotten the exact bugs that my kitten had from any where else.

YES and it can infect you whole house by infesting rugs, mattresses and clothes whats worst it that if you dont nip it in the bud even after the animal is de-liced contact with infected rugs, mattresses will re-infect them. Its a vicious cycle

yep, fleas can live in a lot of places - dogs and cats can transfer them directly to you, and fleas can also live in your carpet and bedding. So if you're trying to get rid of your pet's fleas, be sure to wash your carpet and bedding
