The infection with strep bacteria causes symptoms within 1-3 days. You may develop a red throat with white patches. The tonsils are red and enlarged. There may be specks of pus present on the tonsils, or there may be a grey or white covering on the tonsils. With strep throat, people may also have trouble swallowing and may have tender, swollen lymph glands on the sides of the neck.

These are other symptoms with strep throat:

Headache
Abdominal (lower stomach) pain
Fever
General discomfort, feeling ill or uneasy
Loss of appetite and nausea
Muscle pain
Joint stiffness
Skin rash

The first symptoms of strep throat appear one to five days after a person is infected. The symptoms are no different from any other kind of sore throat .They include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, nausea, a feeling of tiredness, and swollen lymph glands. (Lymph nodes are small round or oval bodies that are part of the body's immune system.) The patient's tonsils will be swollen and have bright red with white or yellow patches on them. A person with strep throat often has bad breath. Strep throat can often spread and cause an infection to the tonsils.

Some people with the disease may have few or no symptoms of strep throat. Many young children may get a headache or stomachache, but show no signs of having a sore throat. Other patients develop a high fever along with a sunburn-like rash on the face and upper body, and their tongues may become right red. This form of the infection is known as scarlet fever . Scarlet fever is no more dangerous than strep throat and both illnesses are treated the same way.

A serious complication of strep throat is rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever occurs most often in children between the ages of five and fifteen. However, rheumatic fever is relatively rare and is seldom a problem if strep throat is treated properly and quickly.

The symptoms of strep throat are sudden, severe sore throat, pain or difficulty swallowing, fever over 101, swollen tonsils and lymph nodes, and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat. Incubation period is 2 - 5 days from when you were exposed to the bacteria.

Sore throat, fever, nausea, stomach pain, headache. You definitely don't have to have all of these symptoms (or any symptoms) to have strep. I would go to a doctor and get tested if you have any doubts at all.
