Umm, if we could give you the "reasons", it wouldn't be "unexplained"!

There is nothing wrong with your dog.
Lets take an example : if you get angry, annoyed etc. then you speak your mind with that other person - well animals are like that to. At some point they will not take the other dogs nonsens any more and just to show how they are feeling they will snap at each other

There are some questions that come to mind, such as...is she spayed, is the other dog spayed/neutered, how old is she, how long have they been around each other, is she "snapping" when they are around you or another family member, is she "snapping" when they are around a bedding site, food, or other area, etc... Answering these questions would lead to the following possibilities:
~She or the other dog is in heat (a total guess since I dont know if the other dog is female or not),
~Her or ther other dog is trying to fight things out for dominance (this can "suddenly" happen even with dogs that have been around each other for years)
~She could be jelous for your attention or that of another family member, and/or
~She could be "guarding" items, sleeping areas, food, etc...that she considers hers and ONLY hers.

Its good that your taking her in to the Veterinarian because he/she can help you figure out the problem and solution to the problem even if its not medically induced. If he/she says that your dog is healthy, than another alternative is to take her to a behaviorist. He/she can give you some ideas on how to discourage dog aggressive and/or dominant aggressive behavior.

I have three dogs two of which are the nicest dogs i have ever owned the other is very sweet and loving but he also attacked and seriously injured one of my other dogs twice costing me over $1000.00 in vet bills.I had to return him to a woman that works for the Alaska dog and puppy rescue. She took him in.Because he is unadoptable
I am still trying to find him a permanent home with no other animals and no children. Some dogs are just born with a naturally aggressive personality sometimes you can change them and sometimes you can't .In my case I couldn't

The three most common reasons for aggression are:

Poor Breeding

Abuse/Neglect/Improper training at home

Illness

Dogs that are from petshops/puppy mills/bad backyard breeders are MUCH more likely to have temperament issues. http://dogplay.com/Breeding/ethics.html

Dogs that have been blatently abused (hitting, beating, screaming, etc) are more likely to be aggressive. Abuse also includes neglect (left at home more than 4-5 hours regularly, left outside all day/night), socially acceptable abuce (hitting the dog with newspaper, yelling at the dog for issues, crating the dog as punishment, swatting/popping/smacking the dog for misbehaving, etc). Also, Lack of proper positive reinforcement training (yelling at the dog for not understanding English, choke chains, shock collars, etc)

A number of illnesses can cause aggression. The more painful and debilitating, the more th chance of aggression.

Sounds like she's out of patience and is trying to keep the other dog in line. Kind of like a mother with a husband and kids. The only reason I would be concerned is if you think she's sick and that's the cause. My old shepherd hated our little dog and was always nipping at him, but he harrassed the hell out of her, hanging on her tail, biting her ears and she had really bad arthritis and just couldn't handle him. Think something like an 80 year old great grandmother watching a 2 year old. Yikes!

Has the dog ever caused the other dog to bleed? Has it required vet care? Are you sure that you are not over- reacting about the one who acts out and ignoring the cause of the problem?

dogs will do whatever works if they dont like what is being done to them. your dog probly just got tierd of being anoyed and snapped at the other dog and it worked to make it stop so it sticks with it. your dog could also be the domonant dog out of the two. if so then it is probly not accually trying to hurt the other dog. it is just reminding it whos boss.

Sounds like a dog not liking to be annoyed. Nothing wrong with that.
