I have a broccoli dish (broccoli, butter, Parmesan cheese) that calls for nutmeg. As with the previously mentioned macaroni and cheese and white sauce nutmeg adds that little something extra. I use fresh ground and the scent it adds to those dishes is wonderful as well.

Any cream sauce will be complemented by the use of nutmeg. Bechamel, one of the five mother sauces, is a white sauce that is used as the base for all other white sauces (such as alfredo). You take milk (or cream) and thicken it with roux. Flavor with salt, white pepper, and nutmeg (and classically speaking, half an onion with a bay leaf stuck to it using cloves).

I'll use a littl nutmeg in a dish containing cinnamon such as apple crisp. It brings out a richer flavor. I also use fresh grated nutmeg in meatloaf

Bourbon custard is a good ol' Kentucky recipe. It's very rich and tasty. If you use a great deal of nutmeg, it will overpower everything else in your dish. It's hard to describe the taste; it's kind of nutty, warm and sweet...but, keep in mind that it is often used along with curry.

New Orleans, 1850 - With one pint of Canadian hard cider order house slaves to add two ounces of 'rock' sugar but you make certain it thoroughly dissolves. Have one black Adonis slowly slide dry cinnamon stick half the size of your small finger into the murky liquid along with two cloves. Signal another savage African to beat one egg into yellow froth and watch it ladled into mixture. See red-hot iron bar plunged into your elixir to warm beverage called "Flip". If you must do something with gentle if delicate pale white hands please try
sifting in a tad of NUTMEG POWDER as would any truly genuine lady of southron breeding and quality.

ANYTHING. It adds a surprising taste that everyone notices they can never tell what is it. It is definately a secret ingredient. I have put it in Fettucini Alfredo, Mashed Potatoes, Soup, and definatly pie. It goes a long way so don't use very much.

Almost anything with a tomato sauce-chile,pasta sauce and macaroni and cheese. It adds a subtle but unmistakable flavor.
