Write clearly on the envelope "Wrong Address" and stick it back in your mail box. Your responsibility ends there.

If the person who name is on the letter is the former resident, you can ask the real estate agent or landlord if they have a forwarding address for that person. If they are close by, you can drop it off (either by putting it in their mailbox or handing it to them personally). If they moved far away, simply put in another envelope. address it to them and put in the mail box. If it is important, I am sure whoever was suppose to get it would appreciate it if you went out of your way for them. Just you would if it was the opposite way around.
If nothing else, like everyone else said, just mark "wrong address" or "return to sender, addressee unknown" on it and then put in a mail box. If you can catch your mailperson, you can give it to them.

Write: Moved or No longer Lives here... on the letter and give it to the mailman or in your mailbox. If it was that important I'm sure there are other ways for the recipient to find out.

Mark wrong address on it, give back to your postal carrier, the post office will return to sender and they can recheck the address.

First find out if maybe its one of your neighbors. If not, then return it to the post office and tell them that that person does not live there.

You cannot hold it as that would be mail tampering (a felony)
so send it back they may have mistyped the address.

Open it and you may find the
answer you need. If it is addressed
to you, you can open it.
