i have some old dos games i want to play but when i use command prompts to try to open them they tell me to shut down windows can i just copy the cd's and put the games on a bootable cd??? i used win xp sp2

XP doesn't run off of DOS like 98 and before did. Meaning no, you don't even have that operating system. You should download Dosbox, an emulator.

you can get a windows 98 boot disk or boot image from http://www.bootdisk.com and that will boot you into dos if you need hard drive room though since your using xp i will bet you have ntfs partition and won't be able to but still good for playing from a floppy or if you can load it in the ram drive... or you can just use dos on windows xp by going start run and typeing in either cmd or command

how are you attempting to load the games on a command promt? I am not sure I understand. Do you just open a command prompt?

right click on the game's icon, select properties. Click on compatibility tab, Check the box, choose win95 in the list, press apply, press ok. See if it works this way
