Pits are not born anyway except to be puppies. They were "bred" to be fighters a long time ago, but they still had to be taught, like any other dog would be. A dog has to be shown aggressiveness in order to learn it. Pits are not mean by nature, but they only know what they are taught.

First of all "Johnny" its pit... 1 t. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A VICIOUS BREED OF DOG! Only moronic owners who cannot be bothered to train/socialize their dog. Then the dog REGARDLESS OF BREED becomes a nuisance and in worst case scenarios a threat.
American Pit bull terriers are known for not being human aggressive AT ALL. It is completely out of a pit bulls nature to show aggression towards a human, which is why they make terrible guard dogs. Read about the breed before you make such harsh judgements. Do you really think that all the info that comes from the media is truthful?
If only ignorance were a crime. It is ignorant people who want to punish entire breeds that are responsible for the rise of BSL.
The only reason you don't hear about lab attacks and Standard poodle attacks.. BECAUSE IT DOESNT MAKE GOOD NEWS.
Do some research and dont be so quick to want to punish an entire breed instead of the deed. Becareful first its Pit bulls and next it could be your dog.
Ahh the pit bull has not been around since roman times... The breed was created in the 1800's. God pple need to do some research.

Pit bulls are trained to fight. It is just their powerful jaws and stature that make them a good choice for a fighting dog. They can be sweet or mean depending on training but will almost always be protect-aggressive.

They are born with the DNA that enables them to be really good fighters, that's why the breed was created for, whether the pit is going to develop agressive treats or not depends a lot on the way he is educated and whether he is handled correctly by the breeder and the owner. But they are fighters, you might have the nicest pit bull but if you are attacked they will come and kill whoever is hurting you.

They aren't necessarily born to be mean, but historically speaking, they were BRED to be mean. The traditional "use" of pit bulls was to fight them in pits (hence the name). Because of this, the Romans found the strength of pit bulls' ancestors' amazing and took more back to Rome to fight in stadiums. Obviously, people want stronger dogs so they'll have higher chances of winning, so they breed the more aggressive with the more aggressive to create extremely aggressive puppies. To this day, there are still people dumb enough to do this but also to this day, many people are trying to breed pit bulls into calmer, better temperaments than their ancestors but blood is thicker than water. It's easier said than done to rid pit bulls of their aggressive bloodlines.
Their bloodline plays a fairly large factor in the way people perceive them nowadays. Since all animals have the potential to be so unpredictable, you never know when a bout of aggression will surface (and that goes for all breeds and all animals, not just pibbles). However, a lot of it, I believe, relies on socialization. If a dog is taken and socialized in a friendly environment where they learn to interact or co-habit with other animals and people who will treat them properly, understanding their needs and energy level (and love to impress and work; they're great working dogs because they have such a strong will and muscular build), chances are that dog will turn out to be a great companion. Most of the weight should be on the owner's shoulders. If they train their dog poorly, it will show.
Some people still train pit bulls to be aggressive, but I find that to be an ego thing on the owner's part. *shrug*

Staffordshire Bull Terriers, just like any other breed of canine are never born with the instinct to fight and be mean, they are all taught to be that way from inhumane and cruel owners. I raised many of these dogs and they are just as nice, if not nicer, than the next. There are no bad dogs in this world...only bad owners! Not only is it illegal to fight these types of breeds it is cruel. These dogs are now being banned in certain cities because of the ones trained to fight and harm. It is up to us, the human population to teach all dogs, both young and old, to be gentle and loving by being gentle and lving to them. The difference with this type of breed is located in their jaw. When they bite down and lock onto (latching) it is very hard to pry open their jaw until they are good and ready, which it is why that this is the last breed you would want to train to be mena and fight. With gentleness, nurturing, proper nutrition and manadatory shots you will have a balanced dog that loves you and will be loyal to the end!

Being a pit bull owner, I have to say it is how they are trained. My pit bull is sweet, loving, friendly, well behaved. It is insane to me that people Honestly believe that all pit bulls are vicious. Any dogs behavior is a reflection of it's owner. Any dog can be raised to be aggressive, and any dog can be raised to be a loving family member.

alot of it depends on how the parents act and some peiople will train them to be mean and add them into dog fight and those people should be put in jailn for dog abuise.
so if u r thinking bout get one, make sure u can see the parents to c how the pup will be.

not unless they are made that way by the owner. people that do train their dogs like that are pieces of shiit and should have their skin ripped off. i dont like those people. they were originaly bred for herding bulls on farms cause they were very loyal and eager to listen and do what the master tells them. that and they got alot of energy and something the size of a bull doesnt really want to listen to somthing so small as a dog so they could acually run and herd them long enough for the bull to give up and let itself be told where to go by the dogs. they are also good with kids and familys. the only thing that gives them a bad name is the bad owners.

Pit bulls are loyal and affectionate. Like any animal they can be bred to bring out dominant characteristics and can be trained to hone them. I personally know two of them, both of whom will lead a burglar to whatever he wants to steal if the burglar will pet him. Unfortunately, pits have such a bad rep, if you get one, you may end up defending him to the neighbors, etc. Be sure he is properly trained and protect him from strangers. They are prone to reaching out to pet a dog without getting permission first. Any dog can react negatively to this gesture as it can be interpreted as an act of aggression.
