I think I am right in saying that one of the ten commandments is: thou shall not kill. Why then, were we taken into an illegal war with Iraq by two leaders, Bush and Blair, who regard themselves as Christians?

I have to say a little more about this. My question is essentially about the idea that: if a Christian truly believes that God is real-and watching his or her actions-then most recent wars cannot be supported. I mean, surely the 'allies' should have intervened in South Africa when aparthied was happening. That would have been as near as you could get to a 'just war', but we did little or nothing to stop that abomination.

They certainly don't follow God's principles and standards! Look at what the Bible says about who the ruler of this world system really is...

1 John 5:19b: "the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one"

2 Corinthians 4:4: "among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through." (speaking about Satan, being the god of this system of things)

This is what God says about war...
Isaiah 2:4: "And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."

So what we have to conclude from this is that although Bush and others claim to be Christians, who's ways are they really following? Not God's obviously!!!

John 8:44: "YOU are from YOUR father the Devil, and YOU wish to do the desires of YOUR father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie]."

Who is the manslayer? That is really the power behind those officials who make war and support war, including any religions who support the war efforts. How can we really view this any other way? So many deaths...so many parents losing thier children and children losing their parents in war that is so against every thing that we know is right and good! That is such a crime! But that is why we trust in God's kingdom to put an end to all the suffering and injustices very soon!

Psalm 46: 9 & 10: "He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth.
The bow he breaks apart and does cut the spear in pieces;
The wagons he burns in the fire.
10 “Give in, YOU people, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

It started a long time before that! The Christian Church and political leaders have never really had a problem with killing in God's name. There were the Burning Times, the Inquisition, the Crusades, among many other atrocities. Islam is no different, they too, believe in bloodshed in the name of their God. I was kind of hoping that the fundies on both sides would kill each other off.

dude earl d
never generalize by religion

im Muslim and i don't want A bombs

btw the guy who started the Manhattan Project was in fact a Christian (episcopalian) [FDR]

the man who gave the orders to drop those bombs was also Christain his name was Truman, in fact he was a member of clergy

and yes Saddam was being a dick to his people. well some.
but the thing is, is that Saddam had the 4th largest army in the world at one point (courtesy of the U.S.A.) As a powerful SECULAR middle eastern government, Iraq could check the extreme regimes in other countries

but no we had to take that out because he had WMDs
if he did
and iran got them eventually
they would check and go into a "cold war"
therefore we dont have 1 country with weapons

THINK KIDS

i'm no longer asserting that the Iraq conflict especially replaced into precise or incorrect, yet extra often than no longer it extremely is attainable to make a Christian case for status up against evil. keep in mind that each and every person is going to die, so in one experience the way you die is beside the point. From an eternal point of view all that concerns is what occurs when you die. meanwhile, God has given us a mandate for finding after the international, for populating the international, and for living in united states of america-communities. God advised Noah that murderers could be achieved. which you ought to loosley interpret as - people who don't prefer to stay in community should not be allowed to destroy it for each individual else. utilising this sort of reasoning, it is totally elementary to justify struggling with people like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot from inflicting untold misery for hundreds of thousands.

Hi Sid S ,, The price for all the Killing will surely be paid by those who have Caused ordinary People to Dragged into Such an Horrific Scenario ?? In Truth leaving "Innocent" citizens with no Option but to face reality --- "Kill or Be Killed" --- Desperately Sad but an Unavoidable Fact

I reckon it' s because Bush and Blair don't really care and would use any excuse to get to the oil. They will bend any rules, laws and religious ethics as they please to get what they want.
I mean how many people did demonstrate against the war ? Did they listen ? A schoolkid in the US was expelled from school because s/he was wearing an Anti war T Shirt.

Hi Sid S, I can relate to your question, I know what you mean. There seems to be a double standard going on here doesn't there? Christians seem to think that it is acceptable to go to war in the name of defending a human right to peace??????

Thou shalt not murder is more accurate.
Now,I'm not saying that I always like the idea of war.But it is necessary in certain cases. For instance, more people may be killed if they were left under a brutal dictaotr, and war would be the only way to save a greater number of lives and depose said dictator. It would be crueller to just sit back and let something like that happen.

interesting comment, but you miss the bigger picture. All religieous cultures are anti killing? So effectively you are suggesting it is wrong for christians are going against their dogma. As a muslim I am tired of cultures being singled out. If muslims are attacked it is spread through the knews and we are revered for being wronged against. surely this should be the case for all of us!

We don't.

We weren't consulted.

We weren't consulted about the A bomb either.

Don't confuse GOVERNMENT POLICY and PRACTISE with RELIGIOUS POLICY AND PRACTISE.

If the Pope and Billy Graham and Martin Luther King were CONSULTED on the ABOMB they would NOT HAVE APPROVED OF IT.

ATHEIST scientists and FOOLISH polticians made that one happen!

GO ASK THE ATHEISTS why they make A BOMBS

Chiristians DON'T

Muslims want to

Hindus DO

Buddhists don't

Go figure
