#1 Use a clean, sharp razor each time

#2 Always shave in the direction of the hair growth

#3 Shave after your shower

#4 For some using a shaving oil or gel rather than a cream helps avoid clogging the pores (For others a cream works better -experimentation may be needed)

#5 Avoid passing the razor over the same area numerous times

#6. If razor burn appears, apply an aloe-vera based cortisone cream twice a day to soothe the skin and reduce redness.

#7. Use Ingrown Hair Treatment to treat or prevent ingrown hairs when shaving and eliminate razor burn.

Shave in the direction that the skin is growing and change the razor like every 4-6 days. Then after you finish shaving, use alcohol or an alcohol based astringent to clean the area. it's also a good idea to clean the area with alcohol before you shave, then avoid putting lotion on the shaved area, use cocoa butter or shea butter instead.

I have REALLY sensitive skin, both these work for me:
Soft skin shaving cream
Moisturizing foaming body wash

Also I use these disposable razors made for SENSITIVE SKIN. I get them at walmart there's a pack of like 4 and it says right on it SENSITIVE SKIN.

It may not completely fix it but it will surely help a lot.

I suppose everyone is different. To prevent razor burn, first, I always use a new disposable razor. Even a cheapie will do. And for shaving cream, I use hair conditioner. I do not apply lotion immediately after the shve. I wait till the next day or so.

my skin is very sensitive so when i shave i use conditioner rather than shaving cream, run the hot water to clean my razor, and change the blade every third or fourth shave. After shaving i use a wash rag with the hottest water i can stand and clean my face. I have minimal razor burn with this method.

Use a shaving cream/gel to clean your hairs. My fav. one is always the Aveeno oatmeal shaving cream. It never irritate your skin but very moisturing enough to protect your skin after use.

Or for alternatives, use the hair wax or something to clean your hairs without shaving with a razor.

I have heard that using antibacterial soap helps. Try using it to wash wherever you shave. I am pretty sure that there are also products specifically targeted at relieving razor burn. Next time you go to the store, you could try looking for a product like that. They are probably located with all of the hair removal products.

No offense but all of these answers great but are kinda...no duh..
The best product for ingrown hairs AND razor burn is this stuff called Tend Skin -- it's amazing. You put it on after you shave for a little while and within a week you will TOTALLY see a difference..get it at Sephoria or Ulta!

I use a sharp razor, use body scrub or a loofah on 1st on my legs. Then I take a warm bath, add baby oil and really lather my legs up good. My legs have been super soft since I have been doing this. I also lather my legs with Jergens Original lotion or body butter before I go to bed. My legs have never felt better!!!!

you have sensitive skin. use skintimate shave gel. there are a lot of varieties of scents available, and they have aloe and vitamin e in them, which is supposed to keep your skin moisturized, and soft. i think there might even be a one type that is specifically FOR extra sensitive skin. if that idea doesn't work, try using nair.
