Has your vet checked him for yeast infection? Are his ears read and inflammed and smell bad? Also, follow up with your vet to see if there is another allergy med he could take, some dogs are allergic to many of the allergy medicines that vets prescribe. We took our dog with same problem to the Ks.State Vet School and they ran blood work and took skin samples and found that our dog was on wrong medicine and also had a yeast infection(common in boxers)and she now takes allergy shot 2 x yr. and does not take oral medicine anymore and we of course got her yeast infection cleared up and she has had only 1 add'l infection since. Also, you may find that some dogs get stressed more than others and that is another reason they chew, and scratch constantly. Have you moved recently or have you changed his normal routine? If your vet does not seem to show more interest, find another vet who will take the time to make sure their diagnosis is correct.

Try this product, it works wonders on my dog, and none of the meds the vet gave us worked. You can buy it at a horse supply store (fleet farm, etc) called MTG (Mane Tail Groom) for about $4. It is a little stinky, but you apply it every day and the skin problem usually clears up in a week. We have to use it every spring.

If you would rather go with veterinary meds- call the vet and say that the meds aren't working, they will prescribe new meds that will hopefully do the trick. However, like I mentioned, we tried 5 different creams/pills from the vet, and none of them ever worked- and MTG did.

Was he itching prior to taking the allergy pills?

Antihistamines have a tendency to dry out the skin causing one heck of an itch. This could likely be the cause for Bentley. If so, you can try a skin conditioner for him.... ask your vet or pet supply store.
Good Luck

Read the food label
Corn and wheat cause skin allergies.
Switch to a food that doesn't have them.
Try Innova, California Natural, Wellness, Canidae and Artemis. All are great, all have websites.

Both my dogs will do this. With Bosco it's because he has sensitive skin and dandruff. With Dosia it's a nervous habit, kind of like when a person bites their nails. He does it when he's stressed out. Try a different shampoo--theres a Banana Oatmeal one that works great on Bosco. If your dog is upset about something, just love on him. It usually works for Dosia. And I have to keep his nails short and filed with a rounded tip because he used to scratch big bloody patches on himself. Hope this helped!

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Probably dry skin. Try getting him on a different shampoo or food - he could have an allergy to food.
