i do. People will tell you to wash your dog once a month. However, my shih tzu has a long coat and gets dirty easily. My vet said that it's ok to wash your dog once a week since the dog shampoos are developed and doesn't damage the coat even if you wash your dog once a week. the reason people say not to wash your dog often is because back then the shampoo wasn't as diluted and mosturized as dog shampoos these days.
I wash my puppy once a week and his coat is so soft and beautiful! Everyone wants to pet him and hold him cause he's so soft.
by the way, brushing your shih tzu is very important. I brush my puppy 2-3 times a day. My puppy is used to it now and he just sits there and let me brush him

Basically healthy, the Shih Tzu is subject to a kidney disease called renal dysplasia and to slipped stifles or kneecaps. His slightly protruding eyes are prone to injury, and his short muzzle often produces slight wheezing problems.
Otherwise, his greatest problems are connected to his profuse coat, or rather to neglect of that coat. A well-groomed Shih Tzu has few if any skin problems; a poorly-groomed Shih Tzu can develop tangles, painful mats, hot spots, skin infections, even maggot infestations. If you do not have time to groom a Shih Tzu at least every other day, select another breed.
If you do have time for grooming and appreciate a small, lively pet with an abundance of self-esteem, consider the Shih Tzu. You'll be glad you did.

The above came from a sight I found from a yahoo search for "shih tzu" there were several helpful sites

I have an 11 moth old Shih Tzu and my Vet told me to bath her every other week because she has allergies. There does not appear to be any problems with her skin drying out. I put her in the shower with me and lather her down with a special shampoo and then let it sit on her for five minutes. She is then rinsed off really good. I then blow dry her hair so that she isn't walking around with wet hair. I'm having real problems combing her though as she doesn't like it and can get quite mean about it.

Obviously if the dog is visibly dirty it needs a bath. The problem with Shih Tzu's is that their eyes water and it causes a real stinky mess on their face. So, you have to clean their face everyday or your dog will smell awful.

well your not suppost to bathe dogs more than every other week it irritates their skin. unless neccesary, so im guessing the same applies to a shih tzu.
