The Phoenix is a mythical bird that rises from the ashes. I think it's a powerful statement that something burned to the ground can come back stronger and more beautiful than ever.
I like your idea. We all need reminders from time to time about how strong we can be.
I think it was E. Roosevelt who said, "Women are like tea bags. You never know how strong they are until they're in hot water."
;)

it depends on what you were going through during your depression and what you did to keep your mind off of it. Was there something that you drew when you were mad, or a poem that you wrote? The best thing to do is to make up your own design. There is this girl I know who has a fairy cutting a skull with a razor blade, its looks really cool. If you want something negative, just think of the word "hate" what's the first thing that comes to mind? Make that image your tattoo. But if you want something positive, think of somehting/someone that kept you motivated to fight your depression and move on with your life. I'm guessing you like butterflies? Maybe one of those. I was thinking about doing the same thing, getting a tattoo that shows love to cover up the things that remind me how much I used to hate myself. I was thinking about doing one of those tiger scratch marks on my forearm.

Get a tattoo of a sewn on patch that looks like its been through Hell and make sure its a faded version of a colour that you associate with that time in your life. You will always know what it means and everyone else will just think it's cool. Hope this helped.

A koi dragon. Legend says koi fishes turn into dragons, and a koi dragon is a creature in the halfway point of the fish turning into a dragon. I got the idea that hypothetically you were a koi fish when you were depressed, and now that you're feeling better and improving you're turning into a strong dragon. I don't where I come up with this stuff but I've seen koi dragon tattoos and they are very beautiful if you like that look.

at one point i was going through something similar.. and the tattoo that i've been planning is simple lettering stating "calm down" or "stay calm"
haha.. i even thought about "just breathe"
but for you, im sorry if this doesnt help much..
.. but, you shouldnt just ask whats a good tattoo to get if its really going to mean something important to you..
you should put more thought into it and come up with something that just feels right.. for YOU....
and also, that way, you eont worry about anyone else having the exact same thing..
hm.. so many thoughts, so hard to word them...
well, keep us posted and updated :)

Please be really for sure before you do it. I am currently going through a very painful and expensive process of having my tattoo removed. I'm in my 30's and got it about 10 years ago. My mother told me that I would regret it later, and she was right. So, give it plenty of thought and make sure it's something you can live with for the rest of your life. Other wise be prepared to endure painful and expensive multiple procedures to have it removed. Good luck in your decision.

Hi... Since tattoo will be a part of you throughout the rest of your life..I would suggest you to put a tattoo which would symbolize the period of good times you had in your life.. their is no point in remembering the bad times and getting mushy all over again.. Put something which bring happiness in your life whenever you look at it..

A friend of mine went through a deep depression as well and had the same idea as you, she got a tattoo of a (monarch) butterfly on her left chest and to her it symbolizes 'freedom'. so i would say a butterfly...or a dragonfly...or if you want something stronger maybe an eagle.

Personally, I don't think you need a tattoo to remind you how strong you are...of course, it does make for a conversation piece...
The man who recognizes your inner strength will certainly remind you when he acknowledges it...

YOu could get one of those old timey alarm clocks with te bells an top with the little hammer that dings back and forth. only draw it real cool and fancy, and instead of the bells draw wings to show that with time you can overcome your problems.
