I think that I am suffering from level envy, I am suddenly very concerned about getting my two points for answering--- just kidding-- to all of those who would tell me that jealousy is a sin.Think anyone will notice if I don't preach sunday -tell the congregation that I've gone blogging!!! Actually, I was flabbergasted when I saw that the orange banner was for R&S. I actually answer a lot in Pregnancy and Parenting and most of my Best Answers are from there. I usually jump around that section though. I would guess that people who don't have them post in more places.

I'd like an orange banner myself, but, when I really think about it, I'm pretty content spending most of my time with my family, doing homework, working, and just being ACTIVE instead of sitting here. This is always a nightime, right before bed thing for me to wind down.

This is my theory.(it's part of my answer to a related question)
I think someone at yahoo monitored the activity and individuals on r/s, etc. and determined, according the unique contributions of each one, who THEY considered to be top contributers. Each person is picked based on uniqueness, regularity, quality and quantity, in that order.
