There are only two major pet insurance companies in the country. I personally have used VPI (stands for Veterinary Pet Insurance). They are inexpensive but cover everything from vet bills associated with gastrointestinal problems, to, God-forbid, burial cost if your dog is accidentally killed (such as hit by a car). Most veternarians will give a recommendation the research the company on the www.

Most vets have several ins.plans from various ins.companies and you need to read the fine print carefully....most are not worth the money...the one we have covers emergency visits, reg.exams, and there is no deductible! It costs us 12.50 monthly but they also send us free coupons for dog food, supplies, toys and etc. Since we have 3 dogs we get a discount and our cats are free. We had a boxer who had a terrible tragedy and her leg had to be amputated and the ins. paid 100%...bill was over $7,000! Also, they paid a portion of her therapy afterwards. They turned around and sued the responsible party and was able to be partially reimbursed. Just read the fine print and know exactly what they are covering..I've seen some worthless ones that pay basically nothing when the time comes to make a claim! Also, since you have a pit bull your ins.will probably be higher...I don't agree with ins.companies are this and I have written many letters to that nature. My daughter has a pit bull and when she tried to get ins.she was basically told that they did not cover specific breeds and that was one of them. Her pit bull is the most loving dog you could ever meet and that breed has gotten a terrible rap over the recent dog attacks...again, it's not the breed of any dog that creates the problem, it is and will always be the OWNER. All dogs will bite....not just pit bulls. Again, the responsiblity goes to the owner.
