I joined one center on a trial basis, never got an orientation, but kept to myself, and got a couple of odd looks. I tried a new one today and got plenty of odd looks. If a piece of equipment is not in use, it's fair game right? If you do free weights and are doing a circuit, you don't have to remove the plates if your obviously coming back to the bar right? Am I right when I chose a circuit with Ipod off and on second set Ipod up and want to do my other 4 sets in sequence, even if I have to wait? What the heck is the deal in the gym? I've been doing great in my basement for a year, but I notice I get a better workout at the gym, I don't want to be rude, but don't want to be stepped on either.

to follow up: I have been lifting heavy for a year, and am a lot bigger than the people giving me looks.

In most gyms, people who are circuit training do have the right of way. However, I really get irritated when I see plates sitting on a rack or bar for a long time doing nothing while I have for the person to finish his "circuit" to get on, especially if they won't let me work in.

So, a few things to consider - if the gym is particularly busy when you go, maybe cut down some on the circuit training and do supersets instead, so you're not taking up too many stations. If you are circuit training, be sure that you're really circuit training and not just "giant setting" which is ineffecient and inconsiderate to others (the point of circuit training is to go to each exercise immediately after the other while keeping your heart rate up). Finally, allow people to work in and alternate with them; you may have to wait once in a while for them to complete and to reset your weight, but at least you're able to keep the stations you want. It may not be ideal to what you're looking for, but since we have to share the gym with others we have to learn to work together and coexist.

If you feel you must have your circuit training, perhaps you could go at a time of day when the gym isn't busy.

well it seems as if there needs to be more details. stalking isn't an issue since you said you kept to yourself. and of course you were wearing clothes and had no signs of arousal either am I correct.

Maybe the weird stares you received were from weirdos. Just a possibility
