You should talk with your boyfriend about this, and hopefully you have learned that he is also a Christian who believes in Jesus Christ, just like you. He believes that famlies can be together forever, even after this life, so if you are moving towards a long term relationship with him - good news! Long term is really long term!

The only difference between a christian and Mormon is we believe that the Gospel of Jesus christ was restored by the prophet, Joesph Smith. We go by the teachings in the book of Mormon and the New testament.
The book of Mormon teaches about the Early americas and people that people that lived there. We believe after Jesus Christ was crucified, he came to the Americas and preeched to the people called the Nephites.

This place attracts all kinds of (often "Christian") Mormon haters. Ironic.
Mormons:
Christens who have been baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
They believe in the Bible
They believe in another ancient scripture text called "the book of mormon"

OK, most of the answers so far have been biased and erroneous. Mormon is a nickname given to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was founded in the early 1800s by Joseph Smith. Smith claimed that after he prayed to know which church was true, he was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ. They told him that none of them were. Soon afterwards, he was visited by Moroni, an ancient inhabitant of the Americas, who delived to him an ancient manuscript written on gold plates. Joseph translated the manuscript, which became known as the Book of Mormon. The book claims that some of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas were descendants from Jerusalem, and that after his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ visited the Americas to teach his gospel to his people there. Early Mormons were persecuted by intolerant Christians. They governor of Illinois even declared an extermination order against Mormons, which is why they moved to what later became the state of Utah. Early Mormons practiced polygamy, but abandoned the practice in 1890. They are known for shunning alcohol, tobacco, and coffee. Mormons, or Latter-Day Saints, are found in nations throughout the world, largely because of their massive missionary effort. They believe that Jesus Christ is their saviour, and is the Son of God. They believe in modern revelation, and that their church is led by a prophet of God ( the current leader is Gordon B. Hinckley). Mainstream Christians tend to call the Mormon church a cult because they don't believe that Jesus and God the Father are the same entity, and because they "added to the word" of the Bible. In defense of the Mormons, the Bible mentions books that are not in the Bible, and the Book of Revelations (in which the passage is found, along with a similar passage in Deuteronomy) was written before other books even though it was placed after them in the Bible. HOWEVER, don't take my word for it. Ask your boyfriend. A common mistake that people make when researching a religion is to refer to those who are critical of that particular religion. They are given propaganda and half-truths. The best source to go to is someone who belongs to that religion because they are the true experts. If you want to learn about the Mormon church from the Mormon church, please go to www.mormon.org for more information. By the way, I'm a Mormon.

Mormon is a nick name for members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. It is because of our belief that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, just like the Bible. Since we believe the Bible is the word of God, and that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, that would make us Christian as well.
Actually, "CHRISTIAN" was also first coined by non-Christians, to differentiate those Jews, and converted Gentiles/pagans who followed Christ. I think it might have been a term of derision at first (IMHO), just as "Mormon" was, and also as "Methodist" was at first, too. But, believers just took these terms and ran with them.

Mormons are Christians. Why don't you just ask him for specifics? And can I just say wow. I'm not a Mormon and never was, but so many of you people have your facts all messed up. Polygamy is no longer allowed by the church. Only wanna be Mormon cults still do this. They don't believe there are only a certain amount of spots is heaven. That's Jehovah witnesses. And Joseph Smith was the prophet. John Smith is a chain of sub shops. Dopes.

The more important question is what does your bf believe in, relating to the Mormon faith? Get to know him better......
One of the most important values of a loving relationship between a man and a woman is each's ability to help each other obtain a clearer understanding of faith, and an deeper appreciation of God...
upon this foundation, a family is sure to succeed

I can't believe the crazy answers you are getting! I'm pagan and my best friend is Mormon. We have the best talks regarding religion and I have visited their church many times and they have come to Ritual with me. I love Mormons. In my opinion they are TRUE christians. They walk their talk.
Mormons believe in God the father, they do believe that Jesus is the son of God and they believe in the Holy Ghost. They are officially called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If they didn't believe that christ was the son of God they wouldn't be called that! They are called Latter Day Saints because they believe that God still speaks to us through prophets. They don't believe that he went "silent" after the crucifixtion. Mormons do believe in good works and believe in striving to attain perfection in this life according to Matthew 5:48 "Be ye perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect". However, they know that humans cannot be perfect...therefore they absolutely believe in salvation through believe in christ as savior and baptism. Yes they do believe in baptism for the dead also according to the bible!
1 Corinthians 15:29
Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? (KJV)
This is simply an act by proxy that allows them to "stand in" for someone that may not have had a chance to be baptized in this life.
Mormons believe the bible to be true! They also follow the Book of Mormon, which contrary to what mainstream christians will tell you, is not in opposition to the bible at all. I wonder how many of these ppl answering you have actually read the Book of Mormon?!? They also have the Pearl of Great Price (which is us...and the great price paid by christ) and the Doctrines and Covenants (which are lovely). Mormons don't have all the guess work that other christian religions do. Their church has worked hard on their doctrines. My favorite from the Doctrines and Covenants is "Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly". Not to mention their strong family values! If I had to convert to christianity....I would be a Mormon without a doubt. I suggest you talk to your BF and visit www.mormon.org.
Blessings! Your pagan friend,
Journey

what has ur bf say about the mormons
have u met with the missionaries??
http://scriptures.lds.org/
mormons are christians beleive it or not
they do beleive in jesus christ as our lord and savior
they do read the king james bible dont listen to other people they dont know the truth
they also read out of the book of mormon which is more scriptures to read
they dont drink smoke do drugs
they beleive heavenly father has a plan for us
he loves us and wants us to be with him
he has given us the opertunity to learn and grow
we show our love for him through our choices and faithfulness to his commandments
god wants us to be able to receive all the blessings that we can possibly have.and to return to him one day in heaven the celestrial kingdom
but we must be pure in our hearts for it is said we must put off the natural man and turn to god to receive all his glories.
if we sin we move away from god and suffer a spiritual darkness but we can all be saved by the atonement of jesus christ who died for our sins.we must pray and fast and read our scriptures
thru our faith and strong obedience we could be free of sin and develop faith and strength to face our trials.
read john 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting ilife.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved
also the gospel blesses families
as families we make special covenants with god to love them and be faithful to one another
to be loving kind and to be of service to one another in times of need.charity is always the key
