A guarantee is a promise. A warranty is an assurance. People expect more from a guarantee so maybe that's the reason.

Because guaranty implies that a company will be responsible for the quality of the product after purchase...where as warranty is a limited responsibility that you buy from them, which directs responsibility of the product to you at the time of purchase.
