i don't want a lecture, so don't waste your breath.
this year i've been forced to come to terms with my "demons" and its making high school pretty impossible for me. i'm in 2 AP (read: college level) science classes and an AP english course, plus history, band and gym. i already dropped math, thinking that because that takes so much effort for me to begin with, getting rid of it would make it easier, but it really didn't. i'm riding on class participation for my (pretty lousy) grades because homework rarely gets done, not due to laziness, but complete incapability. i can't do this anymore, and quite frankly, i think getting a good score on a GED would look better than crappy grades in a high school diploma.
all i want is advice. is a GED really so bad? i don't have aspirations of becoming a nuclear physicist or anything, and money doesn't matter to me since i was poor most of my life and i can deal with (extremely) tight budgets.
thanks, in advance.

i dropped out junior year. best choice i ever made. high school was not for me. once i started taking college classes at the local community college, i got really motivated. it's a completely different environment. and, you know you don't even need a ged to start taking classes? you just need to get it before you get your diploma.

you wrote an epic about how smart you are, but notice how no one here wrote an answer sayin you're stupid because you don't wanna stay in high school. see, while you are in high school, it seems like dropping out = the end of your future. in reality, though, high school really isn't that big a deal. employers care much more about how you do in college & the ones who only want a high school degree, prolly don't care too much either way (compared to your experience & qualifications).

I'm taking the time to write this because I think it might help you to know that some companies do check what you say about your education. I had a good shot at a job with xxxx company. On the application, I put that I'd graduated from high school. I got a call at home from the company, saying they had the high school holding on another line and they'd said they couldn't find a record of my having graduated. Embarrassing and humiliating - and a good job gone forever.

I later got my GED. Please know that no job application has a place to show your scores on it (mine were high, it doesn't make any difference). If you don't believe me, drop by an office supply store and look at the pads of blank job application forms. As far as I could tell, the GED never helped me get a job.

Please, please, see a counselor at school. Tell them you're struggling. At the very least, find out what else you can drop and still stay in school. It sounds like you're overloaded. The semester will be over in a couple of months. If you can just hang in there, somehow, someway, it will be worth it.

I wish I could help you more. I send you good vibes and hope you can feel that someone cares.

Employers look at a GED as being the same thing as a high school diploma. But don't kid yourself into thinking it's easy to pass. You will need to know all the things taught in high school. Math, grammer, history, Science etc. You will also have to write an essay. The only way you would be able to pass is to take a class in GED. The classes are small and you will get help in all areas that you are having a problem. Good luck to you.

I felt the way you did in high school, dropped out sophmore year (age 15) because a teacher told me I wouldn't amount to anything. Went back at age 20 to get a GED and had a child 1 year later. I had a friend that introduced me to real-estate at 22 and I have been rolling in the dough since. I live in a $450k home & drive a Lexus. I grew up poor too, literally...section 8, public aid, the whole 9yrds. I have friends that have diplomas, some even went to college but they're not doing any better than any1 else! At age 32 I wonder if life would have been different for me had I stayed in school. Now a days your either rich or poor...there's nothing in between.

Do what you think is best for you because you are the only 1 that will live with the consequences of your decisions (good or bad)...no 1 else! GOOD LUCK!!!

P.S. If Mrs. Stein (Webber School...1991) reads this....I'M RICH B@#&$!!!

Let me tell you something, seriously. No-one gives a crap if you have a GED or highschool diploma. I don't care what anyone says. Before I got my GED i lied and said I had one and noone even checked it out cause noone cares.

The only time it matters is if you want to get into a university or something, but I just went to technical college for a year and then transferred.

Employers after college don't care either, they look at the college degree/grades , not highschool. Unless you are trying to get hired at NASA.
