How many atheists have actually conducted experiments to prove the big bang theory, evolution, or spontaneous life formation? They just read some lame book, written by man, that has flaws. If their science has flaws, how can they believe in it so much? Why don't they do their own research to confirm their beliefs instead of relying on the reseach of dead people like darwin, or even worse, a brit like dawkins? How can I respect people that put their faith in science that they don't even understand? 100 years from now we will be laughing at these quacks, just like we laugh at how scientists thought the sun revolved around the earth. i'm just glad they scientists no longer use leaches to solve all of our problems.

Why do theists believe blindly in what a book says or what other people tell them is true?

How many theists have actually conducted experiments to prove Noah's ark, the act of coming back from the dead, or the ability of walking on water? They just read some lame book, written by man, that has flaws. If their religion has flaws, how can they believe in it so much? Why don't they do their own research to confirm their beliefs instead of relying on the research of dead people like Thomas Aquinas, or even worse, a Jew like Jesus? How can I respect people that put their faith in religion that they don't even understand? 100 years from now we will be laughing at these quacks, just like we laugh at how Christians thought the sun revolved around the earth. I'm just glad the Christians no longer use prayer to solve all of our problems.

Leaches are still actually used to treat some medical problems - did you try researching that comment?
Not all atheists believe in the theory of evolution or the big dumb theory.

Why is it okay for you to believe in the bible? Isn't that just a book. Oh sorry, that was written by God I guess. That's the thing about religion - you go to it's scriptures and for some reason that always bears out your belief. As if this book is in itself proof therefore there is no discussion. The book says it's true so it is. At least science has taken us out of straw huts and only living to an average age of 35 or 40.

Religion is magical thinking. Which is usually considered to be a mental illness.
It's the 21st century why are people still believing in God?
I've never understood and never will because it's all foolishness. Religion is run by fear and greed to control your mind. Think for yourself...

You know Matt, if it weren't for scientists we would still think the sun moved around Earth.

That aside, it's important to realize that performing an experiment for every single scientific theory to ever be produced just so I could be 100% certain of its validity would be virtually impossible. I have no choice but to rely on the evidence offered up by scientists to support these theories, and make my decision to believe them or not based on whether or not I think it is strong enough.

I should also point out that a great number of atheists have neither read nor even heard of Mister Richard Dawkins. I myself didn't know who he was until nearly four years after I became an atheist.

Well, most people with a college education in biology have taken evolution, physics, organic and bio chemistry. So, at least for myself, I do understand the concepts behind the theories you are speaking of.

Also, there is something about science that you may not understand. Isolated guys don't go around publishing the results of unrepeatable experiments. There is a scientific community, and to be a part of it you must publish in peer reviewed journals. Your data must be repeatable so that people know you aren't just making your results up. There have been times when this happens, but the scientist is quickly flushed out by other scientists who show contradictory evidence.

Oh, and science has come a long way since the time we thought the sun revolved around the earth. We have the scientific method now.

The scientific method is the greatest invention of mankind. How sad that you have such a poor understanding of it, but are just clever enough to disparage it in a way that may make other ignorant people more biased against it.

The scientific method is self-correcting. It has created a virtuous cycle of many people working together to advance knowledge. It has caused the exponential increase in knowledge and truth that we all now benefit from.

If you have any intellectual honesty & integrity, you will go spend some time researching the scientific method, and discover for yourself the flaws of your rant.

Well I'm with you there but I think your sort of overlooking something... as a person of faith you are doing the same thing! You're putting your faith into a book written by some dead man, that certainly has some incongruencies and mistakes. You weren't alive when Jesus was around, and you too believe wholeheartedly in what the Bible or the Torah or the Qu'ran tells you. It's all about FAITH. On a scarily large number of levels, atheists and unrelenting believers are actually very similar.

You just made my stomach churn in anger.
Yet I'll tolerate your idiotic statements and just tell you: who are the ones that believe in a little book that tells you how to live.

And, please, don't insult the scientists. They're the reason you're living like this. If we were to live as God told us then we'll still be in leaves and eating raw deer meat.

Why the hell do you think we put men up in space?
Do you even know your news? Science is dominating. All the researches.

This question should rather go to the Christians.
Two words: discovery channel.

I forgive you, Matthew.

Um, u can say the same thing about people that believe in god. They just read some lame book, written by man, that has flaws. If their bible has flaws, how can they believe in it so much? 100 years from now we will be laughing at these quacks, just like we laugh at the indians, for believing there is more than one god.

Actually, I do not believe in two of the three. I do believe in evolution. How can you not. But, I do not necessarily believe in the big bag theory, or spontaneous life formation. I believe we as a people will never know how this whole crazy thing started. But, I am comfortable with that, and don't have to fill in the gaps with some mythical deity.
