You see different answers because everyone has different preferences.
I'm not a salt fanatic, so the 1 hole gets the salt.
I love pepper, so the 3 holes get the pepper.
Actually, I use mills for both.

I don't know the right way, I think it's just up to you. I have crystal salt and pepper shakers and they have the same number and size of holes. If yours have different number of holes it's left up to you. If you like a lot of salt put it in the one with more holes, if you like more pepper, put it in the one with more holes. I don't think there is any rule to this, it's all up to the individule.

One cyber web web page indicated there look 2 distinctive camps in this count number -- the "bypass" camp and the "flavor" camp. The bypass camp preaches that pepper grains are better than salt grains and for this reason choose extra holes to equalize the bypass between the two condiments. curiously sufficient, i chanced in this same argument reversed on various web pages, which claimed that salt is coarser than pepper and for this reason is going interior the shaker with extra holes. wager it relies upon on the sorts of salt and pepper you're employing. some human beings think of that for the reason that human beings tend to apply extra salt than pepper, the salt ought to pass interior the shaker with extra holes. of path, while you're one in each and every of various human beings on a salt-constrained weight loss plan, this answer will possibly no longer make experience for you.
