I had a one year old somewhat timid cat that just disappeared we live far back from any main roads and it's a lot of open land....hard for a cat to get lost. the cat usually stays near the house. although, on one side of the house (about 20 feet away) is a moving stream. is it possible for the cat to have accidentally fallen in? any other thoughts on what could have happened? not that i know of, are there wild animals nearby that could have gotten it.

it is possible, do you have raccoons nearby that will do it too or maybe it went somewhere in the neighborhood and found someone that is feeding it cats like that too

Yes, your cat could have fallen into the stream. Although they don't like to get wet, cats can swim. So, unless the current is really strong, Kitty would be OK.
There are some wild animals that will sometimes take household pets. In my area, coyotes have been known to do this.

yes it could have fallen in if there is a tree or something hanging over it it may have tried climbing it and fallen out. If its deep and fast moving then it could have drowned. Try looking down stream along the banks and if you can look on the bottum if its clear enough. There might be coyotes out there, depending on where you live. They could have gotten it. Hopefully nothing has happened and she/he comes back. We have our cats wonder off for a week or so and then just show up one day.

Lesson - domestic cats should be inside. May have fallen in chasing something real or imaginary, might have been attacked and lost, might show up soon, might be stuck in a trap or fallen into something.
