I take Enbrel (enteracept) through injection for arthritis. Someone always has to put it in for me because I just cant because it hurts. Does anyone know of a "numbing" cream or spray I can use so I can have ouchless injections?

There are several remedies for this. There is a topical anesthetic cream called Emla, there is another one that comes in an aerosol can and it basically "freezes" the skin. You can also just hold an ice cube on the injection site until it gets so cold you can't feel it anymore.

There is such thing as Emla cream, but I think it only numbs the skin so you don't feel the prick of the needle. I doubt it numbs into the muscle. Enbrel causes a severe burning pain in the muslce when given. I always give my friend her shot because she can't bring herself to give it to herself. If you find something that helps with the burning pain, please share the info as it would help many people.

i have a bottle of that spray and it works great. Unfortunately I'm in a hotel room and it's at home. Call you doc - it's what they use for trigger point injections and they should be able to prescribe it. It's fast acting, no apparent side effects. Good Luck.

My son used to use a topical anisthetic (sp?) when he got bloodwork drawn for his kidney disorder. The brand name was Emla cream. When he was old enough, he started getting the bloodwork without it and I asked him if there was any difference. He said no, so it may or may not really work. It's prescription, so ask your doctor. Maybe you could try a tube.

Sometimes rubbing ice on it helps. Isn't it ironic that the pain management is painful?
