It is ridiculous what some kids wear these days!

I think kids need to concentrate on books and not other things!

It should be...come to Singapore and see how our students wear uniforms to school with various design and colour. Each school has their own design and colour according to the Ministry of Education guidelines. It is nice to see a group of student with same uniform walk together and it is easy for us to recognise them from which school they attend.
And it look more cleaner and neater with proper haircut and and natural hair colour.
Long hair need to be tied. And boys, all short hair above the ear. No funky hairstyle and coloured hair are allowed. No colour finger nails and no make up, period!

Yes they should have a dress code or better yet all public schools should have uniforms. That way all the kids dress a like !! The rich kids have to dress the same way as everyone else. And the middle class parents won't have to struggle financially to have their kids dress like the other kids. Then all the kids will be a like. No difference !!!!!

true but then again cloths can express the personality of a person. Having a dress code is somewhat like having a comunist country. You live under the rules. Just remember, schools are not jailes where everyone whears orange or black and white. I belive you need to be a bit more flexible on this topic. If you were my principal, i would be scared o.o

My local district does...
In one of the high schools with the highest number of graduates competing in the National Finals Rodeo of any in the world, and where the local rodeo is a significant "claim to fame" for the city, they cannot wear jeans to school...

That part seems a little far-fetched to me, but yes, they do need a dress code. The code here outlaws most imprinted clothing and only allows a 1.5 inch square design or logo.

Yes, I do think there should be a dress code in schools. Because, when you get out into the working world you will be expected to dress appropriately for what ever job you are doing. No matter what your job is, there's a dress code. If you work in an office, there's a dress code. If you dig ditches, there's a dress code (safety shoes ect.) They may as well get used to it now.

As a parent I love uniforms. As my kids get older they like that they can just wake up and they know what to wear and not have to worry about what to wear. I've asked teachers and they say that the students are better behaved when they are in uniforms. When they put on a uniform they know it is school time. They hate "free dress" days. They have commented that it's a whole change in attitude and behavior

what is ridiculous is forcing uniformity, and turning public schools into christian schools. christian school enrollment is falling so the displace, Christians are demanding that children are more deeply brain washed , by the school dress code policy.

so when they get out of school they can go immediately in to the military and go off to some other country and kill there civilians

ow yah they had school uniforms in germany in 1938 and they were called the HITLER YOUTH.

I think we need to have a separation of school and state. But to answer your question, yes. The kids and the teachers are supposed to be in school for a reason. It's not to be comfortable, and it's not to make a statement. They need to wear conventional, not casual, and not eccentric.

This is what we wore when I went to school. The male teachers all wore ties and white shirts. If the kids are not going to act like little jerks, they need to stop dressing like that.

They should not need to, but the things kids wear.. I saw a middle school girl who was going into walmart and had a skirt that looked more intune with a strip club than a walmart run... it was right after school, so I sure she was wearing that there too..

I think that studies prove that dress codes work for the betterment of education. Less 'competition' to wear the latest and greatest - puts every student on equal footing. I like it.
