Which has lower crime, UK or Australia?

Question

My family and I are british citizens and want to leave the US.
Though we're wondering which place is better to raise a family which is safer from most crimes. Since my family safety is number one.

I do realize there is crime everywhere but in general where is the best place to raise a family.


Also which place has better education?

I really need some advice so please let me know.

Both the U.K. and Australia are more violent than the U.S.

The UK has lower violent crime in comparison to Australia.

Amongst all western nations you are most likely to come across violent crime in Australia....

Sure some areas of the U.S. are known for high rates of crime but when a national average is compiled the UK and Australia perform worse than the U.S.

I live in Sydney never visited the U.K. but have been to the U.S. many times and have felt much safer in major American cities than I do here.

Crime in Australia is low. Most of it is petty theft and housebreaking when people are not at home. There were about 300 murders in 2005 on a population of 20 million which is a fraction of those in most other countries. Nobody in my family has been the victim of assault and in that I include 22 first cousins. While I know a few people who have lost things to burglars and recently I foolishly left my car unlocked and a few things were stolen from it, that is the only time in my life that I have had something stolen from my home. All that said, crime rates vary from place to place but the trend is down. As anywhere, the best place to raise a family is in a prosperous middling sized town. I would avoid Sydney, but that is just my view.

You already have a good answer on schools. However it has been my experience that some government schools are actually better than the lower rated independent schools. Australian universities rank with the best red-brick and rival Oxford and Cambridge, Yale and Harvard etc in some disciplines.

To add to the education point, one of the striking things here is that private education is significantly cheaper than the UK. The government education system is very variable and the school standards vary widely. Teacher standards can be abysmal and the government system means they can't clear them out. However, as the government provides direct funding to private schools they are a viable option even to many single income families.

I think both the UK and Australia are reasonably low in crime.
I have lived in both (England and Scotland and Australia) and I found from personal experience that the education system is superior in Australian - and there is a much higher rate of kids finishing high school to the final year and progressing to university. Beware though - the education system differs from state to state in Australia so you would need to check where you wanted to settle.

Well the UK is like number three on the list of countries with the highest crime rate.... Australia doesn't even make the list...

i heard crime was up in australia for the particular reason that citizens are not aloud to own guns the ever poular phrase if guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have them.
