it is noted as a Zucchetto! it is not a "yarmulke!" it is worn via any member of the Roman Catholic clergy and the colour shows the clerics rank interior the Catholic hierarchy. it rather is a usual carry-over from the days of the "tonsure" whilst it became worn to maintain the top heat. Now it rather is basically custom and basically the better clergy placed on it. The Pope wears white, i think of bishops placed on purple, and cardinals placed on purple. the time-honored clergy in the event that they have been to placed on any in any respect might placed on black. I actual have seen females choir contributors in the two the Anglican and Lutheran church homes placed on black ones. each and every of the Catholic ceremonial vestments are derived initially from some sensible function, regularly from historic Roman aristocratic or courtroom gown. they have now taken on exceptionally symbolic which ability and are part of the drama of Catholic ritual. The Zucchetto isn't a "Jewish non secular hat." using the Zuchetto via the time-honored clergy has fallen out of disuse alongside with the birretta. I very infrequently see Catholic clergy even donning the birretta in recent times. Too undesirable, i admire the previous traditions.

Not really. Jewish men wear a skull-cap called a yarmulke. The Pope (and all Catholic Bishops) wear a "zuchetto". Not the same thing.

If I remember right skull caps were popular in medieval Italy. Jews were them, and some how they became part of Catholic ecclesiastical dress.
Keep in mind not all "Jewish Hats" are sulk caps.

Kind of.
The skullcap worn by the Catholic clergy is called a zucchetto.
All Catholic clergy are entitled to wear the zucchetto.
+ The Pope's zucchetto is white
+ Cardinals are red
+ Bishops are violet
+ Priests and deacons are black
Some think that Zucchettos go back to when clerics shaved the center of their heads into a tonsure. Zucchettos would help keep thier heads warm.
With love in Christ.
