wc was a military man, had naval experience, had learned from his mistakes of WW1 (Gallipolli), understood his allies(his mother was american and he had toured america), understood hitlers and more importantly his own weaknesses.
And had a high work ethic. It is noted he at one stage did not leave the war room / bunker for 6 days with small naps when time allowed, all in London during bombing. He was also seen by the population as living the war as they did.
Whats more he loved it. His whole life was to lead during war.

Churchill was able to keep British people from sucuming to the despair of war. He kept them believing in hope for a victory until victory was awarded.
Churchill was also able to make Hitler the focus of the world. So when the rest of the alliance came in, we went right after him.

he when at time of the rest of the government stood firm and would not accept the BS being handed out by the germans that more or less said to the Brits stand with us and we will not invade blah blah blah..think of the famous quote of PEACE IN OUR TIME.........so he stood firm and took a country that truly was NOT ready for a second world war [within the generation of the first] and lead them to victory
So effectively he was our most powerful weapon as he would NOT back down............when many others including members of the royal family was more than happy to hob nob with the germans and basically did not think that the germans would march in and over us as it would not have been cricket , after all they had promised RIGHT..............
If you ever get a chance to read any of his works they are excellent, also one of the best books about the war that I have ever read was by his personal Secretary...............she was privy to many behind the scenes things which are revealed in her book.
Regards and thank god for men of fiber like him I say.
