Hey, I'm a newly dog owner, and I happen to have a female Pekingese, who I DONT want spayed. It appears to be going through its period. So, I was wondering if anyone can help me out and tell me how long pekingese's cycles are. If there is anything I should do special...

ALSO...

I heard of "DOGGY PANTIES?" Can anyone help me out on what that is. And if I buy them, how do I make sure the dog keeps it on.

I would really appreicate it :)

I have a 9 month old Peke and she went into heat before I could get her spayed. I went to Petsmart and bought the side of disposable diapers for her. They usually worked very well! At first, she was unsure and not too thrilled, but she got used to them. She had a hard time getting them off even when she rolled around. She started bleeding around January 10th and I think that it lasted about 2 weeks total. Hope this helps!

Why don't you want to spay her? Don't you realize that you'd be saving her from stressful heat cycles, the risk of unwanted pregnancy, and the chance of dying young from reproductive cancers?? Spayed dogs are happier, healthier dogs. It's a proven fact. Heat cycles are physically and psychologically uncomfortable for dogs. Why would you want her to be so unhappy? Or risk producing more puppies in a world that's euthanizing them by the thousands every day because there aren't enough homes? Responsible owners spay and neuter.

You can get the dog panties at any pet store. They're just like human underwear with a tail hole cut out, and they have pads inside like women use. I think heat cycles last about 14 days? The bleeding shouldn't last the whole time though.

It sounds like your dog is in heat. The pet stores have doggy panties to put on the dog to prevent other dogs from mating with them. They will stay on. I would get some and use them on your dog until you are ready to let your dog mate. But until you get them I would definately keep her away from other dogs. Good Luck!!

i am a long time dog owner, and none of mine are spayed. i like puppies and breed many of them so i assume that is why you do not want to spay yours.

her cycle usually last about 10 days of mess. i have also found that it gets less the older they get. meaning the first time is considerably more than the next one. however, i am sure this varies by breed and individual.
