if a guy and girl like eachother a lot but live far away, and the girl is going to college there in 5 months how come they dont talk all the time?

They may not want to get anymore close than they already are that way it is easier when they have to stay that far away from eachother!!

Because they know college is coming and they will be going separate ways? So instead of talking about what they will do when they won't be seeing each other anymore, they just hope that the other person will bring it up so they can know what the future holds for them. :) I've been there...assuming that's the scenario.
Also, if it's meant to be, then even long distance won't stop the relationship. My husband and I dated thru college....4 years in different states. We saw each other probably once a month except for summer. It worked for us..just depends on the relationship.
