As far as spelling goes. Some people (quite a few actually) just never quite understand phonetics and even when that makes sense, there are just so many exceptions to the rules. Spelling is not a naturally easy thing to learn. For a few it comes easily, for a few it never does make sense, and for a few others it takes a whole lot of work.
And that brings us to the spell checker. As far as I can tell, some people don't care to put out much effort - either learning to spell or checking to see if it's spelled correctly. I worked in a class for students with English reading and writing needs. I was totally amazed at how they practically refused to use the spell checker - it was too much effort to push the right buttons because then they had to decide if the word really needed to be changed or not. Plus it took just a few seconds longer before they had 'finished their work'. A lot of it may have had to do with not seeing any signigicance in something being spelled one was as another. If someone didn't read well, it didn't seem to matter if a word was spelled one way or another, it still was just as difficult to read - so they didn't care.

I learned how to spell in school. Unfortunately, I still can't understand algebra. People are different in the things that interest them, and the things that they will remember. My own children are not very good spellers--but are much better in other subject areas.
Spell check is another story. It's right there--I can't understand why people don't use it more often. But, Answers has really improved since last year. The questions, answers, spelling and grammar have all improved.

Actually, this question has a lot to do with the debate over the point of an aptitude test. People often know how to spell very well in their younger years, yet some sort of brain connection seems to dull, making it harder to understand your "ph vs. f"s, etc. It is also linked to the time of life at which we best learn new languages.

I gess it's becuse thei can''tt right good? lol. Yeah, that's for sure after seeing my answer. Anyway, I think it's because school systems don't put enough work for the importance of spelling. I only remember taking 3 spelling tests in the U.S. But I know that in my country you get a spelling test everyday. And btw, I'm from Libya (north africa, NOT TO BE RACIST OR ANYTHING BUT I'M NOT BLACK) Anyway, yeah, so my answer would be that the school systems here are not putting enough work into getting higher spelling for students. PEACE.

The people who spell wrongly on here have no excuse, because we can all Access the spellchecker facility for those difficult words that can catch us all out at times. This would lead me to the conclusion, that they do so in some pathetic attempt to conceal their true identity whilst using their many accounts. AM I A CYNIC OR WHAT
