You don't mention the breed?? We don't know it they are Collies or Poodles......That makes a difference.

I have two Maltese. One is just over a year old and the other one is six months old and they weigh 9 pounds and 7.50 pounds. They have dry food and water out 24/7. They get a can of food (Ceasars in the small containers) each in the a.m. Then they get a people food sandwich to split at lunch time. They get treats off and on all day too. Then at dinner time they get another can of Ceasars plus table food scraps.
I have to keep increasing their food intake. If they have not been fed by 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. they are barking at me for food.
They are not over weight. I find they are eating a lot more now that the weather has warmed up and they run outside in the yard. They are getting more exercise so I feed them more.

If I were you I would give them a can in the a.m. and p.m. both. Mine love table food and it doesn't matter what it is. They also like fresh fruit of any kind. They do get full, I offered mine a pretzel tonight and they didn't want it.

Another thing is, they eat like gentlemen. They eat slowly and don't eat like they are eating their last meal. When we offer them something out of our hand they are very gentle, you don't even feel them taking it from your hand. It is not normal for them to act like your dogs do. Just try feeding them more and see if you notice a change in their behavior.

Feed each dog a regulated amount of food each day that is appropriate for their weight (Puppies:for how much they should gain) plus a few treats. Some dogs just love food (I, for example cannot resist chocolate). Just like children, it is important to teach dogs healthy eating habits at a young age, and for owners to know how much to feed so the dogs dont become obese.

I just found out my black lab has diabetes, thats one of the symptoms, acting like they are starved all the time, if your dogs start drinking a crazy amount of water and peaing alot, lossing weight, get them checked, cause thats the 4 symtoms of it.You could ask your vet about it , that may be a sign of something eles, you never know.
