Now I don't work in a dentist's office or anything, however some firsthand experience with getting burns (especially third-degree) helps. Also, biology classes help.

Nerves work by transmitting signals to one another, sending messages to whatever part of the body it deems necessary. When a nerve becomes exposed (or the organ it is attaching itself to is removed or destroyed), it will send a message of pain back to the brain, which your body lets you know oh-so-well by aching 'till next Sunday. The solution seems obvious, that if you kill the nerve ending, then you will kill the message it sends. However, the presynaptic nerves that come before that will notice that a connection has been severed and immediately send more signals of pain to your brain.

All in all, you cannot kill a single nerve. Your body is wholly connected (with some exceptions) and especially in the face they can hurt very much. Your best bet is to numb the nerve with some sort of local anesthetic (which you probably don't have lying around), or to use a painkiller. However, this will not solve your problem, and I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor (especially if the nerve is truly exposed). Save yourself the infection and possible root canal operation (as they hurt and cost you much money), suck it up and go see a dentist.

Or, as an alternative, you could just pull the tooth and not have to deal with it ever again. The choice is yours. Hope this helped.

I'm a dentist.

Yes, it's possible to kill a nerve. Of course, the pulp of your tooth contains much more than nervous tissue, but that's beside the point.

We never just "kill" a nerve. When people have a toothache that is indicative of a dying pulp, we remove the pulp completely and perform what is commonly known as a "root canal".

Usually, root canals resolve the problem.

Yes, definitely. Priscilla Presley's face is partially paralized due to a cheap, unprofessional botox job. I'd strongly recommend not doing anything to damage ANY nerves in your body. There's a reason why your body let's you know you are in pain. Very dangerous to not have sensation.

YOU NEED A DENTIST TO DO A ROOT CANAL ON THE TOOTH WHICH CAUSES YOU PAIN,
THERE ARE ONLY 2 OPTIONS:
A. FIX IT OR...
B. PULL IT

BOTH WILL GET YOU OUT OF PAIN. EACH ONE HAS PROS AND CONS. SEE A DENTIST FOR HELP
