The Bible tells us that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils,Speaking lies in hypocrisy."forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." 1 Timothy 4:1-3 Does this sound like who your talking about???

How would allowing married priests avoid homosexual scandals?? The small percentage of homosexual priests are precisely the ones who would not marry, even if allowed to.
In any case, Paul makes it clear that a married man is divided between the needs of his family and the needs of his ministry, and strongly recommends that those in fulltime ministry remain unmarried, even as he himself did. I wonder if this is why Protestant ministers have one of the highest rates of divorce by occupation??

P.S. There is no evidence that Peter was married at the time He followed Christ. All we know is that he had been married at some point in his life.

mandatory celibacy emerged as a means to weed out corruption in the church. While celibacy as a spiritual gift has been part of religious traditions for a long time, as a hard and fast rule in the catholic church, it emerged for the following reason:

vocations were once passed down familial lines. The priesthood was pased down from father to son, and all of the wealth as well...this of course meant tat some generations in priestly lines were terrible priests, and not only did the concentration of wealth in a few families become problematic, but the question as to whether a priest who inherited his title was truly called by God.

enter mandatory celibacy--a one size fit all solution that has given the church trouble ever since. There are lots of theological justifications, but this is the history....

Contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church does have some married priests. However, the Catholic Church also wants some priests who are unmarried, because as St. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 7:32-34, "The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided." Thus, the Church selects some men for ordination from among those who choose to be "eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven", as Jesus said in Matthew 19:12.

Catholic priests do not marry because, while Christ does indeed approve of marriage for the Christian clergy, He much prefers that they do not marry. He made this quite clear when He praised the Apostles for giving up ``all'' to follow Him, saying, ``And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.'' (Matt. 19:27-29). Also, Jesus explains why some do not marry, stating "some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingsom of heaven." The Apostle Paul explained why the unmarried state is preferable to the married state for the Christian clergy: ``He that is without a wife, is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please God. But he that is with a wife, is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife: and he is divided.'' (1 Cor. 7:32-33). In other words, matrimony is good-- Christ made it one of the holy sacraments of His Church--but it is not conducive to that complete dedication which is incumbent upon those who submit themselves to another of Christ's holy sacraments--that of Holy Orders. Even so, the unmarried state of the Catholic priesthood is not an inflexible law--under certain conditions a priest may be dispensed from this law.

God bless,
Stanbo

That is a great question. The catholic church is steeped in tradition. They can't seem to break free of it. There is nothing in the Bible about church leaders being unmarried. In fact it encourages marriage just for this reason, to keep yourself from sexual sin. This is just catholic tradition, like confession to a priest and all the sacraments they say you have to keep in order to go to heaven. None of that is required to get to heaven. Just Jesus.

Because they are already married to the Church, when they are given the sacrament of Holy Orders its basically their "marriage" if u want to call it that.

They don't realise that sex and making family is very natural to human being. They consider it as an bad thing and finally get into worst. We cant fight with our nature, nature would bounce back in more powerful way.
