i can't even go to the bathroom half the time, the only thing that seems to work is covering her cage for the time being, but i don't want to do that all the time. i have a room designated for smoking because of her or if it's not cold out i go outside. i can just go out the sliding glass door where she can see me and she screams. i don't won't to promote the bad behavior by picking her up or letting her out of the cage if the door is closed. i don't know what to do and i am starting to lose patience. please help.

Yep, I agree. The answers above are right. We had 2 sun conures. They normally scream, it is their way. But, if your conure screams when you leave the room, don't turn around and come back in to hush it. That only tells it that every time it screams you will come back. When you leave the room, stay out of the room until it stops screaming (even if it takes days). You are the owner, but right now the bird has you trained to return on command (when it screams). Be consistent. If you stay away some times and other times return while the screaming is occurring ,the bird will not get trained correctly, and it will take longer. Good luck.

I have a sun conure and know how difficult it can be. Dont yell at her and learn what her different screams mean. Some are saying "where are you? i am scared" (answer that one) others are "hello, i am happy to see you or I missed you" while the most annoying one is "come see me or else". Try putting her cage where she can see most of the room, and take her with you throughout the house for different activities so that she doesnt get attached to one room. It makes it easier for her to relax. Also cover her cage at the same time at night and when you KNOW she will sqwak (mine hates the vacuum=cover). Play 'beep back": click, then get her to click then click again....she will call to you like that if you teach her what it means. Plenty of toys are great (8beaks.com)
Most importantly: sometimes they just sqwak, and dont let her make you feel like she is bossing you around (mine trained our dog)

The first thing you shouldn't do is go to her when she screams or give her a treat to keep her quiet. She will learn really fast to scream when she wants attention.

Your best bet is to tell her QUIET, walk out of the room and go back into the room only when she is quiet and tell her she is good, give her a treat or just take her out to play.

Good luck.

She has become bonded to you You might get her a few toys to keep her attention while you are not around.
