Whenever it rains just a little bit my dog goes crazy and she wont stop panting or shaking. I no this is fairly common cuz most of my friends' dogs do it. But i really wanna know if there is something i can do that will calm her down. I've tryed to comfort her but it just doesn't work.

Just ignore the behavior and act completely normal when it rains and she will get the idea that mommy is not bothered I shouldn't be either. By babying her and coddling her and saying it's okay it's okay, your reinforcing in her mind that something is definitely wrong! Otherwise you wouldn't need to comfort her like that if everything was okay! If you act differently towards her during a storm, she will act this way every single time it storms. Let her see you go out and play in the rain for a change, that would help her know that it can't hurt her and that if your not afraid eventually she may not be either. If that doesn't work and you have a die hard storm fear animal, you can always ask your vet for some ACE aka acepromazine. It is a sedative you give to an animal before they travel and during thunderstorms for some with high levels of anxiety. Works well to calm them down.

It is just a intulectual fear...you may want to get your dog into some training with a group (they have it a Petsmart like once a week), and comfort her during the rain! Good luck!

You can try using Melatonin or D.A.P. canine pheromone spray (google this) to help.
I understand that you want to comfort your dog, but what you are doing by telling her "It's Ok.....it's OK...." is actually making it worse. Give her a place to hang out, and if she wants to hang out with you, great. But don't coddle her - that encourages her to get more panicky.
Sounds like all of your friends' dogs could use some DAP or calmatives, too.

If you get something let me know as well. I have the same problem with my dog. I did read an article in the Animaltalk magazine (I have to look it up again for the website information). I have heard that you can get something at your vet for it. Good luck for you.

Is it just rain or thunder? My dog is afraid of thunder. I've heard that you should buy a tape of thunder and play it very softly for your dog and then slowly raise it as she becomes accustomed to hearing it. Hopefully she will become adjusted to the sound when there really is thunder outside.

first of all, i might propose exercising the canines on each and every occasion it starts to lick its paws. This habit could be from boredom. If the exercising does not paintings, you are able to attempt an E-collar, however the perfect ingredient could be to take the canines to a vet.

Your vet can prescribe something, to calm her down, during bad weather.
