we are in the austin metro area, and our budget is about 7000-9000 dollars..

Don't laugh !I'm a chevy girl.I drive a Dodge and my husband is a Ford lover ! I work in an automotive shop, and I've noticed Chevy's are the easiest to work on and has a lot of miles on them .But then again my 98 Dodge has right at 210,000 on it and she's still purring. My husbands behind me reading this so I guess I should say go with a Ford................okay he left go with a Chevy or a Dodge..

Personally Speaking Dodge has had the better product hands down for a number of reasons...

when something does go wrong with the electrics sensors giving inputs into the computer it is far easier to fix than either the Ford or GM competititors...

the Automatic trans for the Dodge also is better on durability and reliability too...

To clarify I'm talking about the 518 4 spd automatic not the lighter duty 4 spd automatica available in some dakota models... the 518 is based on the old rliable and strong nearly bullet proof 727's of 60's and 70's drag racomg fa,e

I would vote for the Ford.
I own a '99 F150 XLT Supercab 5.4L V8 with 66,000 miles on it and I've towed an 11,000 pound trailer with it. Last week I was cruising from Durant OK to McKinney TX with a 97 Explorer I'd picked up from an impound lot loaded on my flatbed trailer doing 80 mph down highway 75. Kinda hard on the gas mileage (I usualy get 13.5 mpg) but I was in a hurry.
I like Fords but Dodge makes a good truck too.
I recommend going to www.cars.com and use their research feature to check out the ratings and prices on the models you are considering buying. You can also use that site (or AutoTrader.com or CarsDirect.com) to look for the truck of your dreams.

100K and you are looking for longevity? Buy crack, it will last longer than anything over 100K. Gas engine vehicle are expected to run 100K and anything longer is a bonus.
Dodges are junk the trannies explode at will.

Fords are crap they get nine miles per gallon and then the trannies eplode at will.

CHEVY OR GMC BABY

I bought a '99 Ram with 60k miles and it blew its engine after 3k miles. Horrible truck!

Don't make the mistake I did.... get a Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan.
